  • Bio:

I live in a place where the skies are bluer than just about anywhere else in the world and where the brightness of the stars in the night sky will blow you away.

Outdoor pursuits enjoyed: kayaking, bushwalking (trekking) and mountain climbing.

Interesting Fact: Australia has a brand of adventure clothing whose softshell jackets appear to superior to Arcteryx, TNF, Mountain Hardware and Outdoor Research. The Moutain Designs men's Conquistador and women's Quest are top jackets and if sold in the USA would rate highly. Have a look at www.mountaindesigns.com.au

Apex vest sizing

The sizing is very strange. I bought an XL which is my normal size and it was miles too large for me so I sent it back and got a large. But large is a little on the small size, so the difference in adjacent sizes is too great. Also there is no chest pocket as in the jacket. Another feature that I don't like is the zip pull being on the left side as I am right handed like the majority of people and would prefer it on the other side. Overall rating - fair.

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 8, 2008

This softshell is more fashion than purposeful. No doubt it is nice looking but is a very thin fabric and not that warm. It has perhaps too many pockets and lacks things like a cinch cord on the collar, pit zips and cuff adjustment tabs that competitor softshells have. Now that is made in China and not Canada it is in my opinion very overpriced at over $300. It is very much riding on the Arcteryx brand name.
