Not perfect, but very good.

Montrail Whidbey Shoe - Men's

Montrail Whidbey Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 1, 2008

Very good shoes but not perfect. Good: looks (my 14 year old daughter even thinks they look cool on me, which is rare praise); sole (this may sound a little strange, but not only are they grippy, but they're super stable -- definitely a shoe made by a good boot company); finish (cool sort of roughout); fit (thermoformable insole -- really high-end detail for a relatively inexpensive shoe!).

Weak spots: because it laces down farther than an oxford but shorter than a tennis shoe, it flexes right behind the toes, which was uncomfortable for me until they broke in a little. And the tongue, which is thin, keeps shifting off-center and kind of crumpling up; I wish they had a fixed tongue. So: very good, not perfect, but I'll still recommend them.

Great jacket

Mountain Hardwear G50 Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear G50 Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 1, 2008

It's a little short in the body, as one reviewer said, but not short enough to be a problem. I'm 6'3, and my G50 XXL fits me great (unlike, for example, the Cloudveil Headwall, which really WAS too short in the body; I had to send that one back). And it's a great jacket overall: reasonably priced, reasonably warm, nice light fleece lining, good pox. Definitely worth considering.
