Smith Holt Helmet

Smith Holt Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2009

great helmet, with a bit of military style to it, there aren't a ton of vents but the flowing vent system works well. nice fit, burly construction, you dont need to worry about throwing the helmet in the back of the truck, its exterior shell is tough and wont be dinged by tiny dents.

Smith Performance Lens Pack

Smith Performance Lens Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 10, 2009

Having some back up lenses will allow your goggles to last for years, and give you some options depending on conditions. I like carrying a extra lens with me during the day in case a crash renders my goggles useless. Just pop in a fresh lens, and your up and running, I carry my spare lenses in my cargo pockets in my pants, so they double as armor as well. select your options for the correct goggle frame.

The North Face McMurdo Winter Boot - Men's

The North Face McMurdo Winter Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 10, 2009

this is a bomber boot that is super warm, and fairly light weight for the size of boot. it has really good traction. I like to leave my laces loose at the top so I can slip the boot off and on, it took a bit of effort to slide out until the boots broke in after a few weeks.

Smith Variant Brim Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2009

I feel like this helmet is fairly light considering the durability of the hard shell. Its bomber, and fit my head nicely, this helmet seems to hold tighter to my head than some. There is really nice vent modulation. the vents are adjustable on each side and have three positions, Its nice to be able to fine tune your venting on those deep days.

Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

April 30, 2009

It seems like you want a ski that's versatile and "crazy" in the good snow. I have not tried the liberty's or the iceladic's but I have put a lot of time on the Rossignol s7's and pontoons.

The Pontoon is a super powder ski, its 130 in the waist and has a clown-shoe of a tip. and there-fore performs amazing in powder of any kind. But it has some limitations when it comes to versatility. The Rossignol s7 on the other hand Is 115 under foot with a tapered tip and has normal camber under foot, and rockered tip and tail. This makes the ski predictable and versatile in all snow conditions, and the rocker makes it excel in any kind of powder. Whether its cut up, fresh, heavy, light, upside down, or even crusty the ski slices through like its nothing. This ski will take 10 years off your life, you'll be bouncing off things like a kid again.

Black Diamond Avalung II

Black Diamond Avalung II

Rating for this product: 4 April 1, 2009

The avalung is a great tool to help increase your chances of survival if caught in a avalanche. however, it should not be involved in a decisions making situation,ie; "well, this snow pack looks sketchy but Ive got my avalung so.. lets go". building it into the pack is a great way to decrease this impulse.
Unfortunately BD will not license the lung to other pack manufactures, or sell a version that could be attached to a existing backpack in an effort to direct consumers to buy their pack. Good marketing, but It would be a better gift to the backcountry community to offer it in multiple ways.
It is another great tool to have in the mountains and is a great innovation.

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2009

In my mini survival kit at the bottom of my backpack I keep a letherman, ducktape, some food and a space blanket. It is one of the lightest things you can carry that has the biggest impact on survival in the mountains. this one is way more durable than many versions, and like alpinejames said bellow it wont delam after a year of kicking around in your pack.

Backcountry Access Alpine Trekker Adaptors

Backcountry Access Alpine Trekker Adaptors

Rating for this product: 4 April 1, 2009

There are many good at set ups out there, but for hard charging you will be glad to hear that reassuring "click" as you step into your trusted alpine bindings. The trekker will give you access to the goods and with a few mods you can lighten it up and make it more versatile. It is not the best for side-hilling especially on firm or icy skin tracks. but again, it is worth carrying the extra weight if you are getting into some gnar. If Pow skiing is your main goal out there the AT binders will work fine for you.

Lange Exclusive 90 Ski Boot - Women's

March 30, 2009

the boot is the critical link between your body and your ski, for the best feel, fit, and performance its wise to invest in some boot fitting work. With a boot from any brand getting it customized will help you ski better and your feet will be happier! yes yes yes, you will not believe that you used to use rentals after you get them dialed. Also, new boots take a bit to break in, after you get them worked on expect that you will need to put in some days before they are totally comfy, It usually takes a week or two of skiing in my new boots before they form a perfect fit.

The North Face Winter Mountain Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2009

this shoe is real nice. its one of my favorite shoes Ive ever worn, its comfortable, warm, and has some cool features. There is a bamboo sheet that forms the sole underneath the traction and it provides a nice stiffness and spring to the shoe. and my favorite thing about it that it features art by TNF athlete Renan Ozturk on the insole.

The North Face Nuptse Bootie II - Men's

The North Face Nuptse Bootie II - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2009

I love this boot... it has the look of a classic tent bootie, but has a durable and light weight rubber sole that can put on some serious miles. While traveling I often try and minimize the number of shoes I bring, but on a ski trip you have to have your ski boots, a pair of shoes and some sort of boot to kick around town while its dumping. This shoe fills that niche perfectly... because its so light it wont push your luggage into that "over weight" bag realm. and Its like having a down jacket for your feet!

The North Face Rolling Thunder Rolling Duffel Bag - 4800-8400 cu in

Rating for this product: 3 March 10, 2009

this is a sweet durable bag that will carry a ton of gear. Bomber construction, zippers, straps and handles. One improvement that could be made is more compartments to organizes stuff. It becomes a bit of a pit... one giant compartment eats up items that get settled towards the bottom... if your traveling around to a lot of spots without unpacking completely its difficult to "live" out of this bag.

Smith Troy Lee Helmet

Smith Troy Lee Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2009

If Im getting real gnarly I wear this helmet durring winter. wich like cody and drew metioned fogging of goggles is a potental problem because the face shield reflects your breath back to your face. so... with all full face some modifications to you routine are critical... remove he helmet when possible,(hiking or standing around) breathing through your mouth pushing the air down like your blowing bubbles through a straw.. will help the fog issh.

I mostly wear this helmet biking in the summer. it is really light and comfortable fits with all the smith goggles great, and works well with shades too.

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

Well I spent all most all of last year riding on the S7, once I clicked in I was hooked on this fun, versatile, ski. I really liked the way that this ski can handle a wide range of terrain and snow conditions. It excels in all forms of powder, but can carve a nice turn on the groomer, handles gnarly trails like the High traverse at Alta no problem, and blasts through crud and chunder. The ski allows you to slash and swivel turns in new ways and makes for some creative skiing all over the mountain.

I mounted my skis on the +3 line, (3cms) and had improved tail support when landing airs or recovering from the back seat.

Rossignol S6 Koopman Alpine Ski

Rossignol S6 Koopman Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

I am really into skiing, but I also am very into art, so when Rossignol decided to collaborate with seven artists to design their new graphics I was super excited. My favorite design this year is by Caia Koopman and it's on the S6. The S6 picks up were the Steeze left off, and it is the perfect tool if you like Powder, jumps, skiing fast, and getting creative on the mountain. This ski shines in nearly all aspects of skiing, carves on the groomer and through the chop. It floats great in the deep and stomps smooth whether you're landing forward or back.

The North Face Verdi Plaid Down Jacket

The North Face Verdi Plaid Down Jacket

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

Riding in the puffy jacket is one of the best feelings. It's not necessary to have more than just one layer underneath, and the extra cushion and warmth feels like you're in your sleeping bag. I don't mind hiking around in my puff either, tie it around the waist, unzip it, one sleeve it, what ever. The Verdi Plaid down was my main Jacket all year long, it has great style, pocket placement and fit.

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

Although I love the puffy, for those other days, the ones with lots of hiking, it's nice to have a jacket that's lightweight, warm, and comfortable. The Sedition III is one of my favorite jackets of all time. The material has a slight stretch to it but is far from your normal soft shell. While it's only a three layer shell it's surprisingly warm and keep out the toughest of conditions to keep you dry, warm, and performing at an optimal level.

The North Face Halo Detachable Snow Suit - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

One-piece suits are officially back. The North Face is responsible for the best-looking, feeling, one out there. The Halo suit can be unzipped so you can still wear your jacket when its time to go out on the town. A unique design makes the suit appear to be two pieces eliminating the dorky look, but keeping the benefits of an enclosed suit. You stay warm, feel super free, (sometimes feels like your skiing around in your boxers and a tee) and keep the snow out of your pants no matter how many times you roll in the snow.
