  • Stomping Grounds:

Central Pennsylvania, and anywhere in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming
  • Bio:

I love running -- trails or roads. I'm also a skiing junkie. With a work schedule where I only work 3 days a week (12 hour days), I get to play (or do jobs on my wife's Honey-Do list) for the other 4 days.

Despite that Backcountry doesn't sell anything for this, I also like flyfishing (especially with my Dad and son).

Slowly but surely, I'm also getting better at going shopping with my wife (I've stopped pulling out my hair).

My favorite water bottle

CamelBak Performance Water Bottle - 22oz

CamelBak Performance Water Bottle - 22oz

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2009

This is my favorite water bottle. I like that I can take it on shorter trail runs and not have to take my eyes off of the trail when I want a drink. I can fill it with ice (using regular ice cubes from the freezer). I've never tried to freeze it, but considering that drinks freeze from the top of the liquid down, so unless you freeze the entire amount of liquid in the bottle, it should still be fine.

It blasts the perfect amount of drink into my mouth with a gentle draw and squeeze on the bottle. I couldn't be happier with this bottle.

The only thing that I don't like, is that someone at CamelBak told me in an email that they're discontinuing this bottle. It was in response to their selling the bottle with a bottle strap for use while running. They said that the strap and bottle combo will change to using the CamelBak Podium bottle, so hopefully the person from CamelBak just meant that the Performance bottle will only not be sold with the strap anymore, but will hopefully still be made and sold. If it's going to be discontinued, I'm going to buy several more.

Best traditional water bottle

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 24oz

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 24oz

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2009

This is without a doubt, the best traditional style of water bottle that I've ever owned. I also really like the CamelBak Performance bottle, since I don't have to tilt my head back to drink from it. I heard from CamelBak in an email that they're going to stop making the Performance bottle. This bottle (Podium) will still be around -- which is a good thing.

Sits high

Montrail Enduro Insoles - Women's

Montrail Enduro Insoles - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2009

My wife molded these and put them in her running shoes, and then removed them a couple of days later. They cause her heel to sit so high in her shoes that she took them out and put in the original insoles that came with her shoes. This is because of the large plastic piece that is molded around the heel of this insole.

I too, have moved away from the men's version. I've found the Sole insoles to sit a little lower. The Sole insoles don't have the large plastic piece at the heel. These are however, great for cushioning and do give a great customized fit. My complaints are simply that they don't quite fit with my efficient gait (forefoot landing).

Fits great

The North Face Rucky Chucky Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Rucky Chucky Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2009

This is one of the two best fitting TNF Trail Running shoes that I've ever owned. I've since moved to much lighter, lower profile, move efficient trail running shoes, but I still like this shoe a lot. It is a great all around trail running shoe, and I have no complaints with it.

It's odd, but this is also the shoe that I wear when I want a comfy pair of shoes to wear.

I may be biased, but I think that my wife is gorgeous, and this hat doesn't take away from that at all. It looks great.

So far, so good

Columbia Steep Slope Parka - Boys'

Columbia Steep Slope Parka - Boys'

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2009

Son likes it so far.... He says that it's comfortable and that he likes it. By the end of the winter, I'll know how it withstands asphalt, cat claws, lighting hairspray on fire, 5th grade playgrounds and a wild, young skier/snowboarder.

Overall, it looks like a great jacket and I fully expect it to last a couple of years. It looks to be well made.

DAKINE Switch Skate Backpack - 1400cu in

DAKINE Switch Skate Backpack - 1400cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

Bought this for my 11 year old son. He skates, and wanted both a skatepack and a backpack for school. He likes how comfortable it is for everyday use for school. Not quite as much room as with his previous backpack for school, but he's happy with it. It seems pretty durable so far, but it's only been a month.
