Bio:
Born in raised in Jackson Hole, skiing has been the driving force of my life. But I am not just chasing face shots. I love the adventure. Whether I am searching for a new line at the resort, finding first descents in Yellowstone, or competing on the Freeride World Tour in Russia it is always an adventure.

GoPro Chest Mount Harness
October 17, 2010
I've seen snowboarding footage with the chest mount and looks pretty cool, but ends up being a little distorted because of the body position. I would recommend the head mount for snowboarding. I have also seen some really good footage from the board mount.

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski
October 17, 2010
The 197 is huge. My husband is 6'4" 200lbs. He was convinced that he needed the 197. After a season of throwing the ski around, he bought a 190. The 190 is plenty of ski for most resorts. If you are headed to Alaska, maybe consider the 197. Or if you only want to go straight, go for the 197. Otherwise, I would suggest the 190.

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski
October 17, 2010
Yes. The Katanas ski shorter. I ski a 178 Gotama and a 183 Katana. As far as what you will gain/loose. The Katana is not quite as much fun on the groomers or in the bumps, but is legends ahead in powder and crud. The Katana rips in variable conditions. It is a little stiffer due to the metal in the ski and not quite a snappy, but more stable at high speeds. I ski my Gotama on hard pack days, otherwise my Katana is my go to ski.

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski
October 17, 2010
Yes! The new Katana is a completely different ski. The slight rocker makes all of the difference. It is a little more forgiving and playful. It is also a lighter so that it floats more in powder. This years Katana is the most fun ski I have ever skied on. It rips!

Volkl Gotama Ski
October 17, 2010
It's an awesome AT ski. I have mine mounted with a dynafit and love it. It the ski I use in the Tetons all spring. It is a little heavy, but it's worth it on the way down. The only draw back is the rounded tail. A square tail makes it a little easier to use as an anchor. Other than that it is a sick backcountry ski.

Volkl Gotama Ski
October 17, 2010
I would recommend the 178. I am 5'6" 150lbs. I originally ordered the 186, but it was a lot of ski to throw around especially in tighter terrain. I ski the 178 now and love it. With that said, I mounted my bindings -2 back from the freeride line. This gace me a little more up front so the ski is still stable at high speeds and quick in tight spots.

Volkl Gotama Ski
October 17, 2010
If you had a one ski quiv, it would be the Gotama. It is performs well on the groomers and in the crud. The slight rocker helps float over variable conditions, but there's not enough rocker to make the skis flop on the groomers. It is adequate for powder. The Gotama really shines in steep couloirs. Bottom line, it's a really fun ski: playful and forgiving!

I would get the 186. I have a 186 and 178. I am 5'6" 150lbs. The 178 is perfect me. I consider the 186 a "go fast" ski for me. The Gotoma is really quick edge to edge and performs well in steep couloirs and trees. I think it with be a great ski for you.

Stohlquist Wedge-e Personal Flotation Device
June 2, 2009
I have been guiding for ten years and love this life jacket. It is great for class III. If you are going to be guiding class IV or V, I would consider the Stohlquist Resque vest that is designed for whitewater rescue scenarios. Stohlquist makes great jackets!

Oakley Carve Rash Guard - Long-Sleeve - Women's
June 2, 2009
Chlorine is tough on spandex, but I wear a rash guard in the pool and as long as you wash it immediately afterwards it is fine. It may not last quite as long, but it's not going to fall apart in a week.

Extrasport Gauge Personal Flotation Device
June 2, 2009
The life jacket has a buoyancy of 16lbs 13 oz. This means you can put a lead weight of 16lbs 13oz on the life jacket and it will float. It would probably be a great all around life jacket for canoeing, playboating, kayaking. If you are planning on paddling high volume water such as the Stakine, you may want a high float life jacket with more buoyancy.

DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag
June 2, 2009
No problem. I used the bag last year cruising around Argentina with a pair of 190 Katanas and 185 Kuros. plenty of room for boots, skins, and goggles. Helmet might be a tough squeeze, but can always be attached anywhere. The concourse double is a great bag as well. It has a lot more room, but you may find yourself paying at the airline desk.

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding
June 2, 2009
Depends on what you are looking for. The duke is the best all around do everything binding on the market, but it is not the best at everything. It is heavy so for long tours a dynafit would better. It kicks ass skiing. I use the duke in bounds and out of bounds, hard pack and powder, and have no issues. Bottom line I broke four pairs of Fritschis before I started using the duke and I have had no issues with the duke. It is bomb proof and the best touring binding for skiing.

Volkl Kuro Alpine Ski
April 8, 2009
I wouldn't go any further back the -1 cm. I have a couple of friends who are 6'4" and mounted the ski -2 and -3 because they were afraid the ski would be too short. After skiing them, they remounted to the boot center recommendation. The reason: the center or the ski is the stiff part of the ski. The tail is soft and tapered. The result of moving the mounting point back was a lot of wheelies. The ski floats high enough in the snow that you don't have to worry about the shorter length.

Volkl Gotama Alpine Ski
February 20, 2009
I would suggest the Marker Jester due to your height and weight. It sounds like you are an aggressive skier. The Griffon maxes out at a din setting of 12. I am 5'6" and 150 lbs. I like the Jester set at 14. You will love the Jester. The wider foot print of the binding makes it easier to ski the wider skis and lightens your set-up. I love the way the gotoma performs with the Jester.
