Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen - 27 oz

November 12, 2009

Does backcountry sell any that have the plastic cap instead of the partially metal cap? My friends' Klean Kanteens all have a broken cap (except the plastic ones) and even for $14 I'd rather not have to replace the cap eventually.

Nice for the slenderly built

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 7, 2009

Just got one of these off of steep and cheap. I'm about 5'10.5" (:-p) and this seems pretty short. It's not ridiculous, but short about like the Prime Agnello, and since I plan to layer them together, it's probably not a bad thing. The back seems a tad longer than the front, which I like. At 145 lbs, the fit is otherwise pretty good. Arms are a good length and have room for long underwear and a light (athletically cut) fleece underneath, although sometimes theres a little bunch under the armpits. Thanks to Geartrade.com & Steapandcheap.com, I have a pretty solid set of layers for the fall for less than $100! This will be a great replacement for my 10 year old Moutain Hardwear Windstopper jacket at half the weight! (Although not quite as warm/windproof, there are always trade-offs).

Pretty Good

Icebreaker Glove Liner

Icebreaker Glove Liner

Rating for this product: 4 October 1, 2009

I like these so far. I needed a good liner and like these much better than some slightly thicker synthetic fleece gloves I have. I kinda wish they had some rubberized dots on the fingers, though. The fit seemed a little off, just make sure you realize the sizing is unisex. I wear a medium in most men's gloves and needed a large here. It helped me appreciate Backcountry's great service for the first time.

Backcountry.com Prime Agnello Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

September 15, 2009

Is there a new version of this that is a little longer? How short are we talking about? It doesn't actually sound like my mid-riff would be showing if I got one.

Arc'teryx Naos 55 Backpack - 3230-3600cu in

March 3, 2009

Did anyone stop the squeak? I'm thinking about trying wax like my orthodontist gave me for my braces, but am wondering what other people have tried.

Itchier & Worse Fitting than the Rest

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 10, 2009

This shirt seems to be *okay* merino wool, but it is much itchier than other shirts eg. my Backcountry.com zip, Patagonia Wool 2 zip and all of my girlfriend's Icebreaker shirts. Because it touches more skin, it's closer to ragg wool stuff I've worn than the merino wool that I've gotten used to. I would send it back if I could, but it was ridiculously on sale, so I'm not too torn up about it. The sizing also seems a bit oversized. I got a small hoping it would be semi-form-fitting, but it isn't it hangs loose and...looks awkward I think.
On the plus side, it does seem slightly more durable than similar weights of wool, but maybe that's just because I wear it much less.
I wouldn't knock it just because it's from China (like some reviewers). I blame Icebreaker for the poor quality. Those hard-working sheep and chinese factory workers do a fine job on plenty of other similar items.

Great Shirt. I wear it at least 4 days a week.

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 4, 2009

This shirt is great. The neck looks a little shorter online than the one I have; I think my collar is a full 3 inches, basically going up my whole neck. This feature is great for breezy days. The little pocket is kinda cool, but I've only used it about...5 times over the year or so I've had this shirt. Durability is pretty good.* I wear it more than any other shirt so it has a few rough spots, especially around the thumb loops, but that is to be expected. I love the thumb loops for keeping my wrists warm when it's cold enough to wear gloves. I am sad however about the hole developing in the elbow. I have sharp elbows and prop them up a lot when on the computer and eating breakfast, etc...it's happened with every long sleeve merino wool shirt I owned. Anyhow, if it had some reinforced elbows and I could make the high-wear thumb loop areas last forever, I would probably wear this shirt every day it was below 65 degrees out. Note: I've washed this shirt like 5 times in the year I've worn it and it never stinks!

I ended up sending this shirt back recently. The thumb loops and cuffs were just too worn out and I felt like I could only wear it in the backcountry anymore. No more wearing this shirt multiple times per week all winter long. :-(
