  • Stomping Grounds:

Mt. Baker Washington, Squamish and Manning Park in British Columbia.
  • Bio:

Well for one that got into the sport rather late in life, I'm going for the gusto!! Backcountry skiing...love it!! If it is up, and a challenge I'm there, my worst day of hiking is better than any day at work :o). Looking forward to some higher elevation hiking in preparation for a Denali experience next winter, eventually to prepare for whatever I can do on Everest. When I can't be on the mountain you can find me in my kayak paddling the lakes and rivers of British Columbia, so much to do and so little time or good weather. Always open to new adventures in Mother Natures Playground!!

Great layer piece

Mammut Yampa Fleece Jacket - Women's

Mammut Yampa Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2011

This is a great layering article, or just plain comfy and cute on it's own. The fit is true to size and doesn't get uncomfortable under a shell. I've found it warm to about zero degrees under a shell or light insulating jacket such as the Rab Xenon. I really like all the Mammut products, as I own a few others. I have the outline fleece and will probably use this under it in the springtime for snowshoeing or climbing. The Yampa fleece holds up well in the wash, I don't use the dryer for any of my outdoor clothing so no experience with shrinkage. I can only say" I love the Mammut clothing line".

Awesome softshell gloves

Mountain Hardwear Maia Glove - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Maia Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 6, 2011

I primarily snowshoe in the winter and have use these gloves on my latest outings....they are great for cool to cold temperatures. The pre-curving of the fingers works well and they are not so cumbersome to dis-allow you to manipulate zippers on jackets, packs etc. They are not fitted to use a liner in them so pack a spare pair for when the temps begin to warm up. If you do end up sweating in them they dry quickly if you hang them off your pack as you go. All in all a great product from Mountain Hardware!!

Awesome Glasses

Julbo Explorer Sunglasses - Camel Anti-fog Lens

Julbo Explorer Sunglasses - Camel Anti-fog Lens

Rating for this product: 5 August 11, 2011

I used these glasses on a recent ascent in variable conditions, they never fogged or obscured my vision...save for the trip down in the fog and mist, and I attribute the fogging to the changing temperature and rain/mist that was going by. I own the julbo nomad photochromic as well and find my eyes are a tad sore after a few days on the glacier. Not so with the Explorer. By far the best glasses I've purchased to date. Don't hesitate get them!!

Soft n' Snuggley

Mammut Yukon Pull Fleece Jacket - Women's

Mammut Yukon Pull Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 January 25, 2011

First off this is NOT a jacket!, well that is unless you live in a very moderate climate. I assumed I could wear it over a base layer for shoulder season hiking or snowshoeing on nice days, however it is too light for that. I find it is good to wear with jeans just for kicking about. The Mammut quality is there and the fabric is very nice next to the skin. It will make a nice cover-up for evenings around the campfire or in the backyard.
Overall I'm disappointed that this is not a performance garment. Thank goodness it was on sale!

Awesome Jacket

Mountain Hardwear Solidus Fleece Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Solidus Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 22, 2010

Wore this snowshoeing today, it was great with just a merino top underneath. The stretchy panels underneath the arms and down the side let the sweat out...so no overheating today. Even though it wasn't all that cold -5C I felt warm and toasty, was quite pleased with the wind resistance of the jacket also, it was nice not to have to drag out the down at the top, where the wind always is when you want to have a lunch break.

I love the fact it is so stretchy as well, no pulling up under the pack when making those big steps or scrambling up a side hill. The hood is a bit large but it's meant to fit over a helmet, but wasn't too distracting over a toque. Thinner than the Marmot Power Stretch, but I'd have to say better quality.

Absolutly Great!

Patagonia Alpine Guide Softshell Pant - Women's

Patagonia Alpine Guide Softshell Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2010

By far the best softshell pants I've ever worn/bought. At first I thought they might be too stiff however I tested them out during a particularly nasty day on the slopes, they shed the precip quite nicely and even at -10 with a "Whinny the Poo" blustery wind I was toasty warm with just a light pair of merino long johns underneath. I will be trying them out on a summit trip soon, but so far I love them. Worth every penny. The only downside is I am 5'2" so they are a tad long with just hiking boots, but they fit great over ski boots.

Another Great Boot

Salomon Explorer GTX Boot - Women's

Salomon Explorer GTX Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2009

As per usual Salomon has not let me down, these are great boots for almost all terrain, there was no break in period. I threw my orthotics in and away I went on a 25km trek. I found the ankle support good and the tread was sufficient enough for a bit of a scramble. I will always buy this brand as they seem to fit my feet, I love the roomy toe box. I haven't tried them with anything more than a 30 pound pack, so we shall see how the boot holds on the overnighters, with a bigger pack.
