  • Stomping Grounds:

  • Bio:

I love mountain ranges, climbing up to a knike ridgeline and viewing the world from above. The Cascades are my playground. I enjoy Alpine climbing and winter camping.

Other times of the year I live on my road bike. I average 6000 miles a year in a pretty hilly area. I guess I love to climb.

Snowshoeing is a favorite deep winter sport and hiking anytime of the year.

Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Insulated Jacket - Men's

April 20, 2009

With my son on Father's day 2008 summitting Mt Hood. I wore the Windstopper with only one baselayer. It was 20 degrees at 1 am start and 70 degrees on the return leg down. The pit zips were highly appreciated.

Moist not Crumbly

Clifbar Clif Bars - 12 Pack

Clifbar Clif Bars - 12 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2009

I eat these on long bike ride while on the go, and the Clif Bars are always moist. With dry crumbly bars sometimes a piece goes down the wrong pipe defeating the whole idea of eating while moving, that just doesn't happen with Clif Bars.

I am a big fan of figs so the fact they use organic fig paste for sweetning and binding - is just the icing on the cake.

Carrot cake is my favorite, never messy, and super easy to break off a piece while riding.

Great Climbers / Heavy Woods

MSR Denali Evo Ascent Snowshoe

MSR Denali Evo Ascent Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2009

These snowshoes are simply awesome for steep slopes but because of their compact size they also do much better in heavily wooded areas. The areas I frequent require treks though forests that have alot of downed branches and trees. The minimalist design makes it easy to step over and avoid those obstacles.

The heel lifters are easy to snap up or let down, it takes only seconds. They really do make a difference, however, they can be somewhat unsteady if traversing so I only use them on more direct ascents.

I've put a heavy season of use with these and I have no complaints only praise.

Handles cold weather perfectly

Patagonia Ice Field Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Ice Field Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2008

This coat really was designed well. I've used it in severe cold (-20) and moderate temperatures and I find you can easily adjust the ventilation to handle the changes.

The coat has ample pockets including inner and outer gadget pockets and an inner pouch. The hood has a visor which I normally flip under the hood, but in driving snow using it has been a nice feature.

Today in 7 degree temperature I had only a t-shirt underneath and felt perfect. I was outdoors over an hour and never felt a bit cold.

One nice feature for me is the neck area doesn't have any silly velcro patches to catch on my beard. When fully zipped up the front can be just above the chin or all the way up to your nose.

But the best feature is the ease of movement. For as warm as it keeps you it feels like you are wearing a windshell, especially in the arm area.

I found this coat's value equal to its price

A really impressive jacket I've used as a mid-layer or solo in-town. Just enough stretch with easy movement. This has become a favorite.
