Arc'teryx Altra Backpack 62 - Women's - 3783-4394cu in

April 6, 2011

No, it's not waterproof and two of the four zippers leak. The pack cloth is very water resistant. But count on using waterproof stuff sacks for those items that can't get wet. The pack cover sold by ArcTeryx is 9 oz. You can save substantial weight by using waterproof stuff sacks.

Hmm, Brandon, curious becuase I could not fit the Camelbak. Not a single 3 liter (100 oz) bladder fit. I also tried all my Platypus bladders, my Osprey bladders, and a Nalgene bladder. The ONLY bladder that fits in my Altra is the Platypus 2 liter with the small mouth spout. ArcTeryx should sell the pack with this bladder included.

If you are asking about structural integrity and uniform load transfer, the pack will have no problem with 70 lbs. It's more of a question to ask the hiker.

Brandon, I paid $100 to swap out the hipbelt on my new Altra. My info from the rep is that ArcTeryx does not do free swapouts in the US. Not happy about that policy. Can you confirm or deny it?

At 9 oz, the weight of ArcTeryx's pack cover meets or exceeds the weight of waterproof stuff bags, which are a much more failsafe method for keeping key items dry.

Are you sure the squeak is coming from the load transfer disc?????? As they say in The Incredibles, ARE YOU SURE? If yes, you can fix this easily with the lube provided. This pack needs regular light maintenance of the load transfer disc and it's worth it. HOWEVER, if your squeak is coming from elsewhere, you need to get the pack back to ArcTeryx right away. When pressed they admit that they know about this problem. It is rare but exists, and there is no excuse for putting up with a pack that squeaks. Have them switch it out.

Drew, no, neither pack will be allowed to go overhead because of the stiff hipbelt. Even with the hipbelt removed, no way. I would not describe this as a hosteler's pack.
