The North Face Pamir WindStopper Fleece Jacket - Men's

August 30, 2009

What's the fleece weight/warmth of this jacket? I see it's Gore Windstopper Fleece, but is that comparable to 100, 200, 300 weight? And how does this jacket compare to the Mountain Hardware Windstopper or TNF Denali Wind Pro (or other similar fleece)?

Thanks

KEEN Venice H2 Sandal - Men's

July 22, 2009

I've looked at the "dark gray/red rock" color option on a couple sites and I'm not sure which site has the accurate image for this color. Zappos shows this color option as much darker. See http://zapp.me/7209709 and "dark gray/red rock" is the 5th color swatch. Anyone know what the correct image is (I like the darker color on Zappos, but want to buy from BC)?

Nikwax Tent and Gear Proof

July 22, 2009

I was comparing this product, Tent and Gear Proof, to another Nikwax product called Tent and Gear Solarproof Waterproofing Spray and was wondering if anyone has experience with both? What would make me choose one over the other? Thanks.

Sea To Summit Delta Plate

July 13, 2009

Just wondering what the diameter is? Also, does this plate have any give or is it rigid (curious as to how it will respond if I shove it in my pack)? Thanks.

Black Diamond Tool Box

May 15, 2009

How well do Grivel G12 crampons fit in this bag? (I read a couple reviews of the BD Crampon Bag by people who own G12s and said it wasn't the idea bag.) Also, this has velcro and Fastex closures... how secure is that compared to a zippered bag? Thanks.

Marmot Heat Shield Fleece Jacket - Men's

Marmot Heat Shield Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 10, 2008

I've been looking for a windstopper fleece for a while and was excited to find this one from Marmot. I'm 5'8, 160 lb with 32/33" sleeve length and I've had to pass on the Mountain Hardware WindStopper Tech Jacket because it was too short in the sleeves (I've found most of Mt Hardwear's jackets run shorter in overall length). The Heat Shield is a slightly heavier weight jacket than the Mt Hardwear, which I liked. I really like the pitzips and the 4 exterior pockets, unfortunately the sleeves were too long for me on the Heat Shield (I bought a medium), so I chose to return it. I might be nitpicking, but when the jacket is zipped all the way up the collar wasn't very close around my neck, so I while it is a windstopper jacket, I could see it being drafty around the neck, however I would have kept it if the sleeves were the right length. There's not many quality fleece windstopper jackets on the market, but I'll keep looking.

Too big for my mellon.

Marmot M-Bone Hat

Marmot M-Bone Hat

Rating for this product: 3 November 10, 2008

I have a Marmot beenie from a couple of seasons ago and I love it, so I thought I'd add another one to my collection. Unfortunately, this one was noticeably bigger and when I put it on it comes down over the top of my eyes... too big to keep. Had it fit I would have kept, but this hat was thinner than the Marmot beanie I own.

Mountainsmith Cross Country 3.0 Backpack - 4302cu in

Mountainsmith Cross Country 3.0 Backpack - 4302cu in

Rating for this product: 3 September 8, 2008

I returned this pack b/c I'm 5'9", 160 lb and my torso is 16.5 - 17" and I couldn't get the pack adjusted small enough (too much space b/t the shoulder straps and my shoulders even though I adjusted the torso as small as it would go). I did like the pack though and it wasn't too heavy, even I wish it had a more traditional opening to the sleeping bag compartment. I liked the slanted mesh pockets on the side for a water bottle, although my Nalgene bottle seemed like it could pop out fairly easily.

Would have kept it if it fit

Patagonia Down Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 30, 2007

After research a bunch of down jackets I decided on the Patagonia. It was a little small so I returned it, so I can only comment on how it fit. The sleeves, as well as the overall fit, were short (I ordered a Medium and I'm 5'9, 160 lb). I can say I really liked the full fleece lining on the inside of the collar and the hand warmer pockets. I have since tried on a Large and was swimming in it.
