Arcade Standard Belt

Arcade Standard Belt

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2012

Love this belt. It's like the iphone of belts, when you're used to a brick phone that barely fits in your pocket. Try these while you're out riding just once - you won't go back. Gives while you're riding so you don't feel constricted but still keeps your drawers up at a respectable height. At $22 you can't go wrong. You buy now.

Good compression sack

Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil Compression Sack

Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2011

The XS & Small sizes are great for just about anything that would be loose in your hiking backpack. I use them for extra socks/clothes/etc...compresses way down, makes way more space in the pack & lets you put the weight of all your clothes in one confined spot. 2 thumbs up.

Leatherman Fuse Multi-Tool

Leatherman Fuse Multi-Tool

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2011

Back country hiking or skiing this is always in the bag. Great little multi-tool, if the tools listed fit what you're looking for I wouldn't hesitate grabbing this one.

Good filter

Platypus GravityWorks Filter and Purifier System

Platypus GravityWorks Filter and Purifier System

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2011

About the same weight as the pump filters, minus the pumping. Great to be able to just fill the "dirty" side and then let it do its thing while you grab some lunch or setup camp. As mentioned in the other review the more vertical you have it the faster it pumps.

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL3 Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL3 Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 September 7, 2011

The light weight of this tent along with a couple solid reviews led me to purchase this for an 8 day backpacking trip in Wrangell St Elias...Have used 3 season tents for years while backpacking in AK and have never had an issue. Not so with this tent. The fly design means you have to have 8 guy lines fully staked out to not have the fly touching the tent, which even though doesn't necessarily keep moisture from the inner tent. And even if this tent is fully staked out it doesn't do great at handling wind...the wind goes under the fly & through the tent, which is noisier than other tents I've owned, and results in the tent poles flexing a good bit. Our seventh night in this tent the wind actually caused one of the poles to bust in half, collapsing our tent at 4am, and the bent pole tearing a large hole in the fly. I'm sending the tent back to Big Agnes to see what/if they'll cover the damage. This tent would work great for ideal summer weather camping, and I applaud Big Agnes for going super light, but this tent is not cut out for wet, windy, or cold weather, at all.

Jetboil Sol Titanium Stove

Jetboil Sol Titanium Stove

Rating for this product: 5 July 25, 2011

Smaller, lighter, & faster, with plenty of little design upgrades from the previous version. Feels as solid as the previous version, which I've had for 6 yrs of abuse and is still working fine. Heats water much faster, love the added regulator. Inside of the jetboil has graduated marks, along with the cup on the bottom. Cup on the bottom has a twist movement to get it on/off which seems more solid. I've only had it out for a few backpacking trips this summer but so far am super happy with the upgrade.

I love these pants

FlyLow Gear Stash Pant - Men's

FlyLow Gear Stash Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 22, 2011

Most packable & breathable snowpants I've ever had...vents are sweet, they're waterproof, and on warm days you wouldn't need to wear tights under these either. Also have a bit more style than any of the other pants that are aimed at the backcountry/touring market, but not so baggy they drag on the ground or look cheesy. Buy these pants / Pretend you're Marlon Brando.

Volkl Gotama Ski

January 21, 2010

I'd go with the Goats over the Obsethed's. Both are good in soft snow but once you start railing on the way back to the lift theres a good bit of tip chatter in the Obsethed's. If you like a stiffer ski you can push definitely go with the goats.

Best Glove You Can Buy

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2010

Incredible gloves, super warm but still dexterous as fcuk. Dont let the price scare you away, this is money well spent on a pair of gloves that will last you years. I've had mine for 2 years, clocked probably 90-100 days skiing plus 10 days snowmobiling, plus 2 winter moose hunts, these gloves are indestructible. -20F weather + VCT's = my hand is warmer than the rest of me.

Marker Duke 16 Ski Binding

Marker Duke 16 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2010

Bomber binder. Great for resort, sidecountry, and day tours. Anyone complaining about weight or how these tour - the duke is exactly what they marketed it as, a burly resort binder with limited touring capabilities. If you want something lighter or that strides better get a real A/T setup. I love mine, have them mounted on pmgear lhasa's with dynafit titans. Not the lightest setup but for the skiing I do (80% resort/ 20% touring) it works great.

awesome pack

Mountainsmith Dog Pack

Mountainsmith Dog Pack

Rating for this product: 5 July 13, 2009

Got one for my dog, and he's put it through its paces. Probably over 20 hikes now with it, a couple being 3-4 day trips and the pack has held up great. Pack sits right in place on the dog without moving around, even when my dog starts jumping around and going into play mode.

Only thing that could be better is making this thing waterproof for the stream & river crossings, but some waterproof duct-tape on the bottom has done the trick for me so far.

Either way great pack. My dog gets excited just seeing me pull it out of the closet now.

Good tent

Black Diamond Vista Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Black Diamond Vista Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 February 12, 2009

Bought summer of 08 and took on 8-10 backpacking trips. Held up well in Alaskan summer/fall, hiked Kesugi Ridge with this on a rainy weekend and this tent kept me, my dog, and my gf all nice & dry. The weight of this thing vs. interior space is awesome.

7/31/11 - additional review...have had this tent in multiple expedition (7+ days) trips into Wrangell St Elias and its still held up fairly well. My 2 qualms - compared to more "technical" tents it doesnt pack down as nice. Secondly the fabric after a couple years seems prone to ripping & tearing...I carry a tent repair kit and expect a bit of wear & tear, but my rainfly at this point is just pattern of my patchwork. Still a good tent for the price/space & average use.

Solid gloves

Hestra Fall Line Glove

Hestra Fall Line Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 30, 2008

I've been using these for over a year, rock solid gloves & much warmer than a normal spring glove. I ended up using these in really cold, under 10 degree weather just because they're so much more dextrous than my heavy duty winter gloves. Held up fine, plenty warm, great for the skin up as well as the way down. These are also pretty waterproof if you treat the leather...if not they'll soak water up like a sponge.

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Rating for this product: 5 July 11, 2008

Have used it on one day to week long backpacking trips, have yet to have a problem. Great construction, straps tighten everything down great, the ventilation on the back is awesome, and the hip belt is comfortable, especially once broken in. I'm pretty rough on my gear, and this thing has survived everything I've done with it out in the chugach. Bomber.
