Mountain Hardwear Matterhorn Convertible Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Matterhorn Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 19, 2010

Rugged! The material is comfy and resilient but beefy. Definitely a go-to pant for rocky or brush-filled backcountry scrambles (especially in cool weather). For hotter, midsummer trips, I'd stick with the Mesa's, which offer many of the same features but at a lower price and weight penalty.

MontBell Alpine Light Down Vest - Men's

December 10, 2009

I hope you don't plan on a vest getting you through a Michigan winter all by itself. Unless you have Sasquatch arms, a vest is all about layering. As part of a clothing system, this thing holds its own. It's a little on the short side, but it's wicked light and packs into a meatball. Mmmm... meatballs....

Ain't Got No Sole

KEEN Briggs II Shoe - Men's

KEEN Briggs II Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 10, 2009

I love Keen. This shoe, however, stomps all over that love. They're comfy, but after two weeks of casual off and on wear, the sole just came off. So if you don't mind going barefoot in your new pair of shoes, these are GREAT.

Good buy

MontBell Super Stretch Burrow #1 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic

MontBell Super Stretch Burrow #1 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 4 May 22, 2008

It's a little on the bulky side, but it's a synthetic cold weather bag (i.e., to be expected). The added bulk balances out when weighed against the added weight and discomfort of a soaked down bag of equal temp. ratings. Living in the Pacific Northwest, this is the way to go. Warm, comfy, and quality product.

Soft, Fuzzy Sweetness

The North Face Denali Thermal Jacket - Women's

The North Face Denali Thermal Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 22, 2008

It's too bad The North Face is discontinuing this product. It's amazingly warm, lightweight, and WAY more compressible than the traditional Denali jacket (which is a real burden once the temp. warms up and you have to stash it someplace). Still got the bomb proof construction people love with the Denali line. Yeah, people will probably want to pet you because you look like a warm, fuzzy creature, but it's usually accompanied by oohs and ahhs, which is kind of a warm fuzzy feeling in itself.
