Great wind/water-stopping power; Torso is a bit short.

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 30, 2009

This is a great jacket (like most of Arc'Teryx's high-end shells) and does a great job keeping out moisture and breaking wind chill. Some are under the impression that the softshell material provides insulation. It's really doesn't. But it's much more comfortable if you are just wearing a base layer underneath on warmer days.My only beef with this jacket is it's length. I have a short torso as it is, but it feels short regardless. The powder skirt barely goes below my fleece.5 Stars IF this jacket were longer. Oh and I bought this on SAC/BCOutlet. Arc'Teryx is great, but not worth $500 bucks.

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

November 28, 2009

It seems like the Softshell shoots for comfort whereas the Pro-shell shoots for extreme weather performance and endurance.

The microfleece lining in the softshell is nice, but is there mainly for comfort, and does not provide substantial insulation (you will still need a fleece or sublayer on cold days).

Unless you are back-country stomping with subzero conditions, I would go with the Softshell. Gore-tex also have a 3rd option too called Paclite, which is probably the most affordable, but the least/lowest adaptable/performance.

Very comfortable and warm; Sizing is an issue

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Rating for this product: 3 November 19, 2009

Arc'teryx = High Tech Quality.

Very comfortable warm and windbreaking ability, but that all goes to hell when you realize your ears are not covered 100%.

The pocket is nice, but mostly irrelevant. This is a great beanie tht needs size adjustment. I bought it despite reviews since it was on SAC for 15 bucks and decided to research it myself.

Perfectly Sized; Moderately Warm

Spyder Reversible Innsbruck Hat

Spyder Reversible Innsbruck Hat

Rating for this product: 4 November 19, 2009

This a decent beanie that has aan incredible fit, but isn't as technical or warm as beanies such as the Arc'teryx Covert or the Sugoi Finotherm.

Both competitor beanies are warmer/higher tech. but have less than ideal fits. The Covert is small (to the point where it does not cover ears) and the Finotherm is enormous (easily overs entire head and eyes).

Of the three beanies, this my favorite since comfort due to fit trumps technology. I'm still searching for a technical beanie that fits well.

Awesome beanie...if you happen to be Humpty Dumpty.

Sugoi Finotherm Beanie

Sugoi Finotherm Beanie

One size fits all? Not in this case...this thing is huge. Now before you assume that it's due to my small head, note that all other beanies I've tried on have fit fine. This thing covers my eyes unless I fold the brim.

Looking past this sizing issue however, the beanie is thin, lightweight and quite warm.

If you have a large head, this is for you. If not, beware.
