Good Bag

The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag

The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag

Rating for this product: 3 May 8, 2009

This is a good 'messenger style' bag. The reason I say that is because it is not a true bike messenger bag. This bag takes the standard/bland shoulder bag and adds best qualities NF brings to the table. It's well built, rugged, and water resistent. The only compliant I had was the zipper. It was not easy to close the zipper with the bag fully open because it would get caught on the corners. This was a real pain. It's a good bag and will work for 90% of the people out there. If you need a real bike messenger bag, check out Chrome or Tumbuk2.

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2009

Got this to replace my North Face Bionic after it was stolen. This is a fantastic jacket. I'd even rate it ahead of the Bionic. The material is excellent but more flexible than the NF. It keeps me warm, keeps out the wind, but doesn't feel heavy or cumbersome. The athletic cut is very nice and fit close but not cramped. Could use an extra pocket or two but overall an awesome soft-shell for mild weather.

This is a great bag that will keep you warm in most situations. I never had an issue and the bag compresses well. It's my go-to bag for camping on the East Coast and Europe.

Solid

The North Face Tadpole 23 Bx Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The North Face Tadpole 23 Bx Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2009

My wife and I used this during our trek through France last summer. It is an excellent pack tent that compresses really well. The tent is small but that is the intent. A minimal tent that gets the job done. If you like spending time in your tent, consider something bigger. It you are traveling light and just need a nice dry place to sleep, this is it.

Side note: first time we tried out the tent, we got hit with a nasty full-on downpour. I setup the fly and waited to hear drips all night. The fly and footprint held strong and there wasn't a bit of wetness inside. Huge!

Excellent for Running

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2007

I bought this purely as a running head lamp. I tried it out today for a 6 miler and it worked perfectly. I used the SuperBright LEDs when running near ambient light and then switched to the HyperBright single bulb when I got on the dark trails. I was amazed how well I could see while running. I could see the rabbit eyes all the way up the trails reflecting back at me. The strap worked well and the weight of the light was a non-issue. Very happy I got this and recommend it to other runners.

Marathon

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 16, 2007

Bought these as my training shoe for long off-road/singletrack running. Put 30 miles into them the first weekend without issue. My longest run in them was 20 miles and I didn't have any blisters. The lacing system is excellent and provides a nice fit without any pressure points. The bottom is OK but a little soft for true trail running. I felt rocks at times that almost bruised my feet. The cushioning is good for a neutral shoe. I recommend the shoe for neutral runners looking for a high mileage shoe on both the road and single track trail. They aren't the best shoes for true trail running given the soft bottom and tread. I will likely buy a second pair.
