If it wasn't hard and you didn't almost die, then it probably wasn't that fun or that worth doing.

"First you have to give up, first you have to know... not fear... know that someday you're gonna die."

I like Maine... New Hampshire's pretty cool too. I don't like cities much, but if I did, I'd think Boston was pretty cool.

The North Face Fortress Peak GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

The North Face Fortress Peak GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2009

I was hesitant to depart from my love of Salomon's gnarly GTX footwear, but I wanted a more protective trail shoe... plus I wanted the ability to stomp in bigger puddles.

Still 100% waterproof after 3 mos, still super comfy. Some peeps complained a/b stiffness at first- I say they are pansies- these babies felt sweet from the get-go. I even made an emergency 2-mi dash to a trailhead right after getting them and no blisters at all. Heavy enough that I wouldn't want to do that again though. Only SLIGHT downside.

Bottom line: Yes, please.

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

Pros: Light, easy to set up (in bad weather too), good vestibule size w/two entries, can cook in rain and stay dry (due to large vestibule), excellent waterproofing, plenty of space for 3 avg people (say 5'10", 160lb)

Cons: not a free standing tent, but that's a different market...

PLUS it's snazzy looking... that's right, you CAN pick up trail friends (read:chicks) with this baby...

like little packets of fun...

Adventure Medical Mini Roll Duct Tape

Adventure Medical Mini Roll Duct Tape

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

... potentially life-saving fun. Everyone needs duct tape, and by removing that big cardboard cylinder that's usually in the center, you can now take duct tape with you just about anywhere. Small enough to fit in your pocket, with the Adventure Roll, you can fix anything, anywhere... including both the international space station and broken axles on your Big Rig.

only negative is that the tape is more difficult than usual to pull off the roll on account of the smaller size. No biggie.

So sweet my brother in law "borrowed" it indefinitely. Sharp, durable blade. Smooth opening, secure blade lock to hold it open.

good work CRKT.

Salomon Techamphibian Sandal - Men's

Salomon Techamphibian Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 November 7, 2008

I was so excited when I got these finally!!!

No dice...the tongue is extremely stiff and extends too far up the shoe and so constantly digs into my ankle. Ow... the Salomon Karma is a very similar shoe and MUCH more comfortable. I love those ones... this one just sucks.

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

Erroneous, Jon. It's not huge, but it's also not small. You just need a better stuff sack, hombre. I carry mine with on backpacking trips and it fits just fine in the sleeping bag compartment. In fact, there's always extra room no matter what pack I use.

It's extremely comfortable and the neck-draft-dodger thing is super warm/cozy/comfortable. This bag rocks.

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

durable, comfortable, inexpensive, waterproof.

sometimes starts to fold up if you move around in your sleeping bag. I'm a wiggler, so that's a pain in the butt for me.

Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 21, 2008

100%. 10/10. However you want to say it, these shoes are perfect. They are 100% waterproof. They are breathable but still warm in the snow/ice. I've used these on mud, ice, snow, dirt, mud on ice, water on ice, ice on water, rapelling, hiking... these shoes are my absolute favorite. The excellent traction has saved my butt many times. They're also nearly indestructible. I'm extremely demanding and harsh on my shoes, and they almost look brand new still. I would still by these shoes if they were $300, cause you won't ever have to buy another pair. The ortholite insoles are so comfortable that I also wear these shoes as slippers.

If God wore shoes, he would wear the Salomon XA Comp3 GTX trail runners.
