G3 AviTECH Shovel

d handle looks good when stowed in ice axe loop, but gets in the way when mounting a snowboard as well. Really wouldnt be a problem if i had a splitboard.

The Canyons 1 Day Adult Lift Ticket - The Canyons

Rating for this product: 3 January 23, 2010

as hard as the canyons are to get around the terrain is great. wouldnt call too much of it "stomach churning," except for a wrong turn in "the abyss." the side country access is cool. but at the time of this writing it is dangerous as $#!T. if you go, take avy gear. you are playing with your life and those with you.

Maybe find some 3 piece poles

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 3 January 16, 2010

I used these on my Level 1 Avy course. they worked fine. they supported my weight(240). but when stowed on my backpack for the trip down, they stuck way up. Like past the top of my head.

here is picture of the BD Expedition 3 piece poles(they seem to be a little stronger than the Traverse poles). If you are a boarder do yourself a favor and find some 3 piecers.

Voile Split Decision Tractor Skins

January 9, 2010

According to the Voile website, they are 152 cm long, but it also states that they are 140mm wide. Not the 130mm listed on backcountry.com. Probably a good idea to talk to a gear head.

Works

CamelBak Hellion Hydration Pack

Rating for this product: 3 December 31, 2009

The bad...
After using this backpack for a year the main compartment zipper pulls have fallen off. I used on my avy class and with a small amount of food, a nalgene bottle, a very small first aid kit, and back up gloves, my soft shell was a little too large for the main compartment. Jury rigged zipper pulls became a big pain.
Bite valve froze over every 15 minutes in 20 degree weather. It was a struggle to break it up again. finally gave up on it.
when loaded with avy gear, the aforemention brik a brak, and a snowboard the fact that the hip belt did not really sit on my hips became a strain on my shoulders.
MP3 pocket is asinine. if you are in the b.c., why would you listen to a mp3 player? great place for a snack though.

The good...That said, If i didnt have such a beastly stature everything probably would have fit fine.
avy gear stowed away neatly on the outide, and was easy to access during burial scenarios(it kinda got in the way when my board was strapped to it, which i chalk up to my bad, as i really should upgrade to a split).
when the water was flowing again it was still room temp, just like when i left home.
worked well on fall hikes.

Great Idea, crappy liner

Burton Impact Glove - Men's - 09/10

Burton Impact Glove - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 December 30, 2009

When i first received these gloves i was stoked. they fit great and kept my hands warm except around the 0F mark. The liners are not removable, which would be fine, but with a little hand sweat the liner pulled inside out as the glove was removed. after about 15 days the finger tips began to break down internally and by about 25 days fingers in both hands were resting in the shell.

I am not the biggest fan of burton gear. Im not a fan at all, actually. but after trying the Biomex wrist guard on Level gloves, i really wish Burton had their crap together on the liners of these gloves, the Burton wrist guard is solidly built, and felt much safer than the Level wrist guards.

Accelerade Sports Drink - 60 Serving Canister

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2009

i used it during training for the Seattle to Portland, and for the Cape Cod Marathon. worked great during all my cycling endeavors, and my long runs. I read a complaint on the CC Marathon site complaining that Accelerade was terrible, turns out that the marathon staff was mixing it at about 1/20th strength.

uhhh, so yeah. works well. and im a heavy sweater.

Pieps DSP Smart Transmitter

Pieps DSP Smart Transmitter

Rating for this product: 5 December 24, 2009

It had a great transmitting range, and performed great in a multiple burial. Even without reading the manual, i figured out the flagging function quickly and was on to searching for the next "victim." It seemed that it worked alot easier than the Tracker.

Lib Technologies Skunk Ape BTX Snowboard - Wide

Rating for this product: 5 December 24, 2009

Riding the early season pow. The banana really came into its own. i ride a centered stance and i only have to lean back a little to keep the nose up. Im sure the Mullet with its setback stance and pintail would murder the pow.

Comfortable and warm

Merrell Snowmotion 6 Boot - Men's

Merrell Snowmotion 6 Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2009

The most comfortable shoes/boots ive ever worn. They've kept my feet warm and dry trudging around park city. Highly recommended, especially over Snowmotion 8s. I do not have the size issue with my 13s that others have reported. I wish i could wear these next summer. but find them a little too hot for 40 degree weather.

Tried them on in size 13. Too tight, and the zipper kept going down. I lucked out and found a pair of Snowmotion 6s(lace up) in 13. Way comfier, like walking in warm butter.

Palmer PLS Binding Lifter

November 7, 2009

I have the 13mm and wear 13s as well. i have about 2.25 inch clearance from the base of the board to the bottom of my boots.(Stance 23",+15,-15; Flow NXT AT bindings). the 20mm will give you another 3/8 inch. Not sure about the effectiveness of the Dual Durometer set up.

NOTE!!! I have since removed the lifters. no difference in carving, just better board feel.

Metal

Lib Technologies Skunk Ape BTX Snowboard - Wide

Rating for this product: 4 November 6, 2009

I received a 169 as a gift from a generous employer. As far as how stiff most reviews that i have read rate it, i found that it flexes much easier than my old 170 K2 fat bob. im 6'5 and 220. dont know how the banana-traction helped. it definately felt like it tracked alot better. the softer flex was alot more fun than my last board. I wasn't aware i could tailpress so easily. or nose press either. switch was alot easier too. not that i am that great at it. see you after the first pow day...

DC Status Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2009

I have the 08s. Super stiff, inner ankle on both boots slightly sore during first day. a little more difficult to maneuver when skating vs softer boots . had to tighten alot during my day, but still more predictable flex than my lace boots. one cable was not attached on arrival, but i read the instructions and it was fixed super quick.
