Marmot Spring Glove

Marmot Spring Glove

Rating for this product: 4 July 2, 2009

I don't take these out on big wet powder days (got uber-gloves for those days), but I do wear them if it is at all warm and sunny (generally at or above freezing) and really like them. Breathable. Mostly waterproof (like I said, not bomber enough for storms). Keeps my hands cool and dry. I often will bring along a pair of glove liners just in case it's colder up there than I anticipated- they layer well with the liners. I lost my last pair near the end of the season. I like them enough that I'll get another pair.

Lange Exclusive 100 Ski Boot - Women's

January 6, 2009

You really should get your foot sized at a boot shop and try a few sizes on. I wear a size 8 1/2 shoe, but my ski boots are 24s (the equivalent of a 7). My guess is that you'll actually be closer to a 26.5.

Inseam too short.

SmartWool Midweight Boot Top Bottom - Women's

SmartWool Midweight Boot Top Bottom - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

I found the inseam too short, making for a big (and cold) gap between the top of my ski boot and the bottom of this base layer. I do have long legs, so those with shorter legs may not have this problem. Otherwise I found them very comfortable and nice and warm.

Marmot Power Stretch Boot Cut Pant - Women's

Marmot Power Stretch Boot Cut Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

Love these pants. Comfortable with a big wide waist band and stretchy fabric. I work outside at a ski resort and it gets incredibly cold and these help drastically with keeping my legs warm. The snug fit and boot cut is great because they fit under my ski pants and over my ski boots so I can stay warm without having them bunching in the boot.

Mountain Hardwear Butter Zippity Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Butter Zippity Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2008

Super stretchy, soft, and supple. Wicks moisture away well. I'm definitely getting another one. I'm 5'6" and 125lbs and a small fits well- not too tight, and tailored so it's not baggy around the waist.

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Zip Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Zip Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 24, 2008

I pretty much live in mine. So comfortable, and flexible. The high collar is really nice on cold days and the long zipper makes for easy on and off and more ventilation. The sleeves are very long to begin with, but mine have shrunk a little in the wash. The sleeves are also a little looser than other brands that make similar products and that's nice for getting layers on under it. Over all I think it runs just a little big. I go between small and medium from brand to brand and I'm a small in this one.

Sierra Designs Isotope Jacket - Women's

Sierra Designs Isotope Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 17, 2008

Great jacket. I used to hem and haw about whether or not to bring my rain coat on day hikes because it was heavy and bulky. Not anymore. This rain coat is so thin and light that there's no reason not to bring it and it is absolutely positively waterproof. The only thing is that it can sometimes be a little stuffy, as it appears to me to be akin to wearing a really durable plastic bag.

Sierra Designs Isotope Jacket - Women's

October 11, 2008

I think it's about true to size to maybe a touch on the big side. I'm 5'6" and 130lbs and I have a size small. It's just a little snug when I have two thin layers (a t-shirt or tank top and thin fleece) on under it. I probably would have more room in a medium without it being huge, but this was, for me, strictly a summer garment so I stuck with the small. Hope that helps.

cut narrow

Mountain Hardwear Clouds Rest 5 Sleeping Bag: 5 Degree Down

Mountain Hardwear Clouds Rest 5 Sleeping Bag: 5 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 3 September 26, 2008

My mother and I both ordered this bag within days of each other from this same exact page. I got a standard 6' bag, my mom got a 5'6" women's bag (not what she wanted and since we're both taller than 5'6" we couldn't just switch). Very odd. She, obviously, sent hers back. I gave mine a shot. I lasted one night. It's cut quite narrow- a lot narrower than I expected. I thrashed all night getting stuck in it every time I pulled my knees up. It was a cold night (lots of frost on the tent in the morning) and the bag was quite warm. So, if you don't mind a narrow cut, it's a perfectly good bag, but if you get at all claustrophobic in mummy bags you won't like it.

GSI Outdoor Glacier Stainless Vacuum Bottles

GSI Outdoor Glacier Stainless Vacuum Bottles

Rating for this product: 4 September 26, 2008

Does the job it's designed to do and does it well. Keeps your drinks HOT and is spill-proof. Just toss it in and don't worry about it. Mine already has a couple dents in it, so the outer construction could be a little more rugged, but it still works perfect.

Super Comfortable

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 August 25, 2008

I'm a side sleeper and this mat is awesome. So comfortable. No aching hips and shoulders. Full night's sleep. It's also good and compact and you can fit it back into its included stuff sack without squeezing out every last molecule of air left in it. It is a little heavier than similarly compact mats like the Term-A-Rest Prolite, but it's so much more comfotable it's worth the weight to me. The pump does work. It just takes a little practice.

Very good stove.

Brunton Raptor Stove

Brunton Raptor Stove

Rating for this product: 4 August 11, 2008

I have been very happy with this stove. I've used it above 10,000 ft in breezy weather and never had any problem at all. It also works with MRS threaded canisters (though not as efficiently, but good enough in a pinch). It folds up small and nests into my GSI Soloist cook system along with an 8oz canister.

However, the auto ignition did not last long. It broke after the use of one 4oz canister to be exact. Nevertheless, I still feel that it's an excellent stove and I would purchase it again and just bring along some matches, since these lighters are notoriously unreliable.

Genius!

GSI Outdoor Ultralight Soloist Cook System

GSI Outdoor Ultralight Soloist Cook System

Rating for this product: 5 August 11, 2008

This system is smarter than me.

Reasonable sized pot is light, with a stay cool handle that is sturdy and folds up over the top to the pot. Nesting bowl has neoprene sleeve. The lid can be used as a strainer or turned up-side-down fits securely into the bowl and has sip hole. Stuff sack is water proof and can be used as a small camp sink. Little pouch houses your stove.

The whole thing nests in it as well an 8oz canister, stove, and folding spork, and easily fits into my pack, no problem.

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 July 17, 2008

It's a great tent. It has a tiny footprint so, fitting it into a tight flat spot is easy. It's ridiculously easy to set up. Get a compression sack for it and it shrinks down to a sleeping bag stuff sack size. My only complaint is that I use it high in the Colorado Rockies where it gets quite cold at night, and with the rainfly on, which helps keep the tent warm, my breath condenses on the inside of the tent and everything is a little wet in the morning. The one vent on the back of the tent just isn't quite enough to allow moisture to escape.

Therm-a-Rest Prolite 3 Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Prolite 3 Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 3 July 7, 2008

Pros: Light weight and compact.
Cons: A little cold, NOT for side sleepers.

I like it, but I wake up every hour or so to achy shoulders and hips. Honestly, to me it's worth the extra weight and bulk for a better night's sleep.

K2 T Nine Tough Luv Alpine Ski w/ Marker M1 11 TC Binding - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2008

Agile and fun in the powder and even though they're geared towards the soft snow, I am perfectly happy cruising groomers on them as well. They're fast, and nimble, but still very stable when skied correctly. Gotta stay forward and assertive though. They'll chatter wicked (or get stuck in the crud) if you back off and don't drive through the turns. They don't require uber-aggression, but I can't say I'd recommend them to a recreational skier. More for the skier who's out regularly and doesn't want to sink a boatload into two separate pairs of skis.

K2 T Nine Lotta Luv Alpine Ski w/ Marker M1 11 TC Binding - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 January 29, 2008

I live in and ski Crested Butte and I personally wasn't hugely impressed. I thought that as a ski that is geared to 50/50 groomed/ungroomed they weren't really all that great at either. When looking to buy an all mountain ski, I ended up on the K2 Tough Luvs.

K2 T Nine Burnin Luv Alpine Ski w/ Marker M1 11 TC Bindings - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 January 29, 2008

Easy and fun, but can handle a faster more aggressive skier as well. Very stable and carves really well, even through crud. Not great in powder (to be expected with a 68mm waist).
