Merrell Thermo 6 Waterproof Boot - Men's

December 23, 2008

I have a pair of Chameleon Thermo 6s. They were great in snow, cold, and water. Soles gripped wet logs and rocks. Kept my feet warm whether I was walking/stalking or sitting for long periods. Only downside was they are a bit low in deeper snow.

Outdoor Research Advanced Bivy

December 18, 2008

I'm large (6'3", 214#) and used this with a MtnHdwr Switch in the mountains; very comfortable on the ground or with a mattress. I found it comfortable, didn't need the mosquito mesh that time, but I got this bivy to meet any situation. It has a loop on the top to tie it up to something if you want it "pitched" off your bag (tie it loosely). I was surprised with the room I had, more than I expected.

Descent Bag, not to 20

Mountain Hardwear Switch 20 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic

Mountain Hardwear Switch 20 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 3 November 30, 2008

Got a Switch 20 Long. I'm 6'3" 213#; used for 9 days in the Bitterroots/LoLo NF in MT 16-25 Nov. Didn't keep me warm with temps 25+ at night. I was also using an OR Bivy Sack with it (no tent)--no liner. It was cold/hard to sleep but not impossible, all the warmth seemed to go out of the foot panel (plugged with a jacket and it worked better.
Tried not to keep it compressed all the time, if I could hang it in a tree during the day I would.
The Long was a good fit for me, standard for a sleeping bag.
