Great pants, small waist

Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 18, 2008

Like many others have stated, order the waist a size up. I normally fit into a 32 but could barely button it. Length is what I expected for a 34. The gusseted crotch is great. I was installing insulation in a crawlspace in these pants lately and was in all sorts of akward, squatting positions, but the pants let you move freely with plenty of room. I'm betting the material will hold up well as it feels pretty durable. I got them half off but not sure though if I would have paid $70 for them. Even so, waaaay better than the cheap work jeans I had been wearing for years.

Work jeans are obsolete

Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pants - Men's

Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pants - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2008

I gave the the MK Original Mountain Pant 4 stars but I will give these 5 because the material is very comfortable. They are exactly the same cut as the MK originals as far as I can tell. Same issues with the waist being a size small so I recommend ordering the waist a size up. Length felt about right. I got them during the 50% off event and they are a great deal. Bottom line: get rid of your cheap work jeans, these are much better.

Looks great, but that's it

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 18, 2008

I ordered these primarily because I am a Dean Karnazes fan and they look really cool. They are great for casual and gym wear, but don't make a good running shoe unless you already have near perfect biomechanics and you add a good footbed (like Dean does). I don't see how these could be called trail runners as the sole is extremely soft and flexible with no lateral support and no toe protection. The Boa lacing system is super cool, but I wouldn't depend on it to hold up through a lot of rough terrain. TNF generally does a fantastic job of combining looks with function, but these shoes are really just looks. If you want a real trail shoe with solid structure, look at a Montrail.

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Convertible Pant - Men's

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2008

Fatastic pants for warm/humid weather. I am never, ever wearing jeans again in the summer--these are so much cooler and more comfortable. Forget how heavy and clammy cotton gets when wet, these never feel that way. Loved them so much I have 4 pair now and so far have not had any issues with zippers coming loose. Only minor drawback is that thorns can get through easily so if you are going through a lot of thick foliage your legs might get a little scratched up. Other than that they dry in a flash and don't restrict your movement any at all. Do yourself a favor and get these for anytime the thermometer creeps up. Sizing seems true.

Smartwool rocks

SmartWool Trekking Heavy Crew Sock

SmartWool Trekking Heavy Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2008

I forget how many pairs of Smartwools I have now of varying thicknesses because they are so comfortable. Even after years of use the inside of the sock resists piling and stays soft and smooth, unlike every cotton sock I've ever worn. And it's true what they say about wet wool still being warm. After a day of hiking in knee to waist high snow (which was beginning to melt in March) in Colorado I took my Smartwools off at the end of the day and was amazed that my feet had been warm given how wet the socks (and boots) were. Fantastic socks. Cotton = bad. Smartwool = good.
