  • Stomping Grounds:

    Mostly local hiking-San Francisco/Marin County-Utah & Colorado for skiing
  • Bio:

My dogs are what generally get me up in the morning. I walk them about five miles a day mostly in the Presidio and take longer hikes with them on weekends. The US Army ruined camping and sleeping outside for me but I'm starting to look at it again because there are some overnight hikes I'd like to do. I buy a ton of Gortex and fleece even though I really don't need it. Arc'teryx stuff is my favorite hands down. I'm too fat and always bring my dogs for any real rock climbing but I scramble well. I tend to ski mostly single black diamonds. I like steep and powder but not too many bumps.

I wish it had a pocket

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2008

I have four of these and have bought them for my girlfiend too. Like everyone else we love them but I do wish it had a least a key pocket. I wear one almost everyday as a mid layer or top layer. They hold up great and while I wish they were cheaper I do feel they are good investment.

Would recommend a Gamma over this

Arc'teryx Sigma AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Sigma AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2008

I agree with neck being too large and that being a problem. I really like the pit zips on this but I can't recommend this one over the Gamma MX or SV or the Sigma SV. The loose neck makes this look strange and really creates a funnel for cold air and rain. I give a big thumbs up to the Sigma SV (hooded version) but if you don't want a hood I'd recommend the Gamma SV, AR or MX over this one. Note on size for this-it runs much smaller than the Gammas. I normally wear a large in Arc'teryx and needed an XL on this jacket. The large didn't even come close to fitting.

Best layering fleece EVER!

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 16, 2008

I'm not sure why it is refered to as a jacket because this works best as a shirt. I find the hood provides a great insulation and comfort layer when wearing a hardshell hooded jacket. It also helps to reduce the noise created by your noggin moving around in a hardshell hood. This fits on the smaller side of Patgonia's sizes so you may want to go up a size. I normally wear a large, I have this in a large but it is really tight. I plan on purchasing another one and will get an XL.

Great outer layer T

Arc'teryx Operative T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Arc'teryx Operative T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 31, 2008

I really like this shirt but wouldn't recommend it for layering if you expect to sweat. It works best as an outer layer or with a single outer layer. It doesn't dry very fast. It fits true to size with a stretchy cling.

Great socks!

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2008

Thus far have worn these on a couple of short day hikes with hiking boots. They are great! Very comfortable and breath well. I have many different brands of socks and by far perfer Smartwool's light and medium weight socks. They fit true, I wear a 13 and the XL fit perfect. While these have not pilled yet all of my other Smartwool socks have but not much.

"Wick"ed

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2008

This a awesome shirt. One thing though these tend to run smaller than other Patagonia merchandise. I find this true in all the Cap 3 stuff. So order a size up. Also, I give a HUGE thumbs down to the Cap 3 crew. I have two and both have had the neck seems come undone. The zips seem to have no problem.

Great design

Arc'teryx Quiver Backpack - 670cu in

Arc'teryx Quiver Backpack - 670cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 10, 2007

This is a very well made, thought out bag for a day of hiking or skiing. I have yet to use it on the slopes but use it every weekend for hiking and long walks with the pooch. I use the external straps for the pooch's Chuck-it and the pockets for food, dog toys, folding water bowl and a 3L CamelBak bladder and still have room for a hardshell or fleece. It is very easy to wip around to access the pockest and the access angles just make sense. The torso straps are wide but don't get in the way even if you gut like me.

Great fleece

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2007

I have one of each of the Covert fleeces but this one is my favorite because of the hood and hand pockets. I like it so much I bought my girlfriend one too because she kept wearing mine. What's great about this fleece is how breathable it is as top layer and how warm it will keep you as a mid layer. I've had one over a year and it has no pilling.

Awesome shorts!

Arc'teryx Palisade Short - Men's

Arc'teryx Palisade Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2007

So many good things to say about them. Just one note on the size is that they are a bit tight in the butt. I have no butt and I normally wear 35". 35" W clothing is tuff to find so I normally have to go up or down. Normally I go down. I got these in a 36 and was surprised how tight in the butt they were. It isn't a problem and they are very comfortable but if have a big butt you may want to go up one size.

Great shirt be careful of color

Arc'teryx Blaze Crew Neck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Arc'teryx Blaze Crew Neck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 16, 2007

Technically an awesome shirt but beware of the colors. They tend to be 80's neon-ish. I have a red and blue one and both are very bright. I guess they're helpful if you get lost and need something bright to wave but I only wear them under something else. As far as size they are perfect, they breath and wick moisture great.

Awesome T

Arc'teryx Velox Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Arc'teryx Velox Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2007

Fit is slightly smaller than most Arc'tyrex so if you feel you are borderline go up a size. The color is true to on-line images.
