  • Stomping Grounds:

    snow, surf, asphalt, air, rocks
  • Bio:

There is nothing like a big black steaming cup of coffee in the morning while you scope out the day's conditions.

Will today be a climbing day? How about we rig up the kite and go flying? Or perhaps its time to paddle out and snag some hurricane surf.

    Push it to the limit...

Comfy but not so great for walkers

Patagonia Footwear Dawn Shoe - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Dawn Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 28, 2008

These kicks have a lot of style and Patagonia's heart is in the right place with the eco materials, but if you walk a lot to and from work, you'll find that you wear through the sole at the heel and quickly bite into the leather. No I'm not a heel dragger either... just walk/use public transportation whenever possible

Still at a cheap price, they are totally worth it

Best Kiteboarding Bularoo Kite

Best Kiteboarding Bularoo Kite

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2008

I 100% with the review above. I also managed to snag this with the 50% off coupon and that made it a hard to pass up kite.

The bularoo is a one pump model so you don't have to inflate the struts manually and has a fully operational one way valve.

I bought the 16m kite which is big and burly to learn with, but once mastered will become an every day low wind kite. I ride on the East Coast where we average less than 15 knots every day. So far no complaints

SP1's are Rock Solid

Ride SPI Snowboard Binding

Ride SPI Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2008

I just got back from a weeklong trip to Whistler where we got dumped on (55+ inches during the trip). I brought a backup pair of bindings in case these didn't fill the bill, but they were just dead weight in the suitcase

Pro's:
Great looks and style, I got the black and red, but they look and act bulletproof.
Adjustability out the wazoo
Comfortable straps, metal ratchets and gears
Stiff as hell

Con's:
Stiff as hell
Strange binding release mechanism on the upper strap was tough to release consistently. Not a problem on the toe strap
Convertible to strap to toe cap strap didn't seem to stay in place on the toe cap. Thats ok because it was really comfy over the top of my foot traditional style.
The ratchets ate my mittens, something about clearances but I quickly learned to tighten with my thumb

Overall they are a fairly pricey premium binding and are worth every penny unless you are looking for a dedicated binding with toe cap straps

Love the Yukon

Ride Yukon Snowboard

Ride Yukon Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2008

This board served me well up at Whistler this last week. Its wide waist profile easily accommodated my rather clunky size 13 boots without any significant toe or heel drag even when cutting across the steepest runs at the peak.

I decided to ride the 159 ( I am 6'2 but a light 165 lbs) Given the amount of powder up there I could have used a few extra centimeters, but the board was a dream in the park. Fast base and tough compound handled the rails and tables without a serious ding

Pros:
Wide waist takes big feet
Great looks and bright colors
Lightweight.
Slimewalls? Though I didnt really feel the difference.

Cons:

Stiff Stiff Stiff, but it loosened up after a few days
Its a lot of board to get moving from toe to heel and back but once you get the hang of it you wont go back.
The etched topography map of the Yukon on the deck made stomp pad application quite tricky. Any small spikes/stars came off but my larger single pad stayed in place.
