MontBell Alpine Light Down Parka - Women's
April 16, 2011
Perhaps it's too late for you, but the XL is there now... also, I have this jacket & a Thermolite MB jacket & this jacket runs much more generous throughout-- longer sleeves, more space around the bust, etc. I almost ordered the XL because my Thermolite is snugger than I would like, but I'm really glad I went for a large in this one.
PS-- I'm jealous- I love the burnt orange color, but I'm a sucker for a sale, so I bought the thyme green elsewhere instead. Great jacket!

Outdoor Research Rumor Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's
April 16, 2011
Depends on just how slim you're talking & whether you're all torso, but I thought it fit pretty long & a slim-but-true-to-size. However, I'm only 5'6" & I wear a large...

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Parka - Women's
November 14, 2010
eh, i think you can do better. this is the "inner" parka, meaning it is more ideal for use in layering underneath a shell. the nylon outer "shell" of this jacket is less waterproof & less durable than a lot of other outer materials. this is made with ultralight materials that do have a strong weight/tear strength ratio, but the abrasion resistance isn't great. i'd say this is worth it for the folks who are looking for ultralight, but i'm thinking there are better jackets out there for around-town (ab)use.

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Women's
December 6, 2009
Depends on what you're doing & where you live... The Micro Puff will hold heat even if it gets wet, but weighs 5 oz. more than the Down version. HIstorically, down is more durable & compressible than synthetics which tend to "pack down" with time. I'm not so sure what lifespan of Primaloft is touting, but I'm guessing it's pretty darn good- I've been really happy & impressed with my Primaloft insulated goods (jacket & mittens- currently on their 7th season)
So, for general around-town use, I'd say just go with whichever one you think looks better; for backcountry winter use I prefer synthetic- just in case. Weight-conscious folks would probably prefer the down...

Patagonia Rubicon Rider Jacket - Women's
November 12, 2009
Anyone know how this runs?
-->I've had a tough time with Patagonia's sizing over the last couple of years. All of a sudden some large's are huge & some mediums are too snug. (I always used to just be a large in everything... & I'm still physically the same size.) Any thoughts?

MontBell Super Stretch #1 Hugger Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down
May 11, 2009
Washing, just as with a synthetic, do it infrequently, but when necessary (washing will remove built up oil from the feathers & increase your loft when it's needed.) If it just "smells bad"- air it out; over-washing will shorten your bag's lifespan. The best cleaning products are specifically for down & you should be able to find them at your local outdoor shop. Whatever you do, don't use any detergent with petroleum in it (think of what those oil spill covered birds look like...) You'll need to use a big front-loading washer on gentle cycle & I usually double-rinse, if it's an option. Drying is tough too-- I always air-dry most of the way (line dry out of the sun) & then tumble dry on low with a few tennis balls to "fluff" the down back into place & bust up the clumps. There are also services that will do it for you, but I just kinda prefer to do it myself.
