Great for Spring

SmartWool PhD Ski Light Sock

SmartWool PhD Ski Light Sock

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2008

Solid socks that are great in the spring. They are not really heavy enough for regular season wear. The padding on the shins makes a noticeable difference. I have not had any problems with bunching or excessive wearing as some others seem to have.

Helly Hansen Fly Pant - Men's

Helly Hansen Fly Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2008

These pants function exactly as a good base layer should. They are warm, comfortable, and wick moisture extremely well. The fly is an added bonus.

Very Comfortable Layer

Helly Hansen Crew Top - Men's

Helly Hansen Crew Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2008

This shirt provides all one could ask for in a base layer. It is comfortable, warm when combined with proper layers, and incredibly adept at wicking moisture. Not to mention it dries incredibly quickly. I use it for all cool weather outdoor activities, and it always performs like a champ. Helly Hansen did a great job with their LIFA polyprop.

Overpriced and Overrated

Burton 3L Cirque Pant - Men's

Burton 3L Cirque Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 12, 2008

I would not recommend these pants to anyone. First off they are incredibly baggy, and awkward to board in. More importantly, they absolutely do not live up to their 20000k waterproof rating. When boarding in wet conditions they seem to just soak up the moisture, especially while strapping in. These pants are overpriced (as Burton most often is) and I would highly recommend investing in a pair of gore-tex pants. For this kind of money it doesn't make sense not to.

Underperforms

Burton 3L Hybrid Jacket

Burton 3L Hybrid Jacket

Rating for this product: 3 December 12, 2008

This is a mediocre jacket that does not perform as the price indicates it should. In my experience it is excessively baggy, and poorly designed. For example, the hood does not fit over an average sized helmet when the jacket is zipped up. The waterproofing on this jacket seems very average. Your money would be much better spent on a gore-tex jacket, which you should be able to find for around the same price.

Good Mid-layer

Salomon Motomesh Crew - Men's

Salomon Motomesh Crew - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2008

This is solid mid layer that is pretty comfortable and wicks moisture well. It is also fairly versatile as it's slim enough to layer with, and yet substantial enough to wear without a dedicated base layer.

Burton 3L Hybrid Jacket

December 11, 2008

I previously owned this jacket and a giro helmet. The hood did not fit over the helmet when the jacket was zipped up.
