Big Agnes Sleeping Giant Memory Foam Sleeping Pad

Big Agnes Sleeping Giant Memory Foam Sleeping Pad

I grudgingly give this product three stars as it is adequate for the job... However, I was under the impression it was a stand alone product, and have no intention of adding more weight to my pack. Although I admit that used in conjunction with a thermarest air mattress it is quite comfortable, I took it on a weeklong trip, and felt like leaving it behind after one night... On it's own it is useless.

I recently went on a camping trip in Hawaii, and needed to haul everything and protect my Osprey backpack... It worked. The only problem was with the shoulder straps, which kept sliding apart and falling off my shoulders, when they weren't slipping and lowering the pack down my arse. Some type of chest closure and heavier buckles would make this pack perfect.

Marmot Trestles 40 Full Rec Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Marmot Trestles 40 Full Rec Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 3 December 29, 2008

Ironically, I already have two other bags, and only bought two of these so that I could zip them together on a camping trip I took last year with my wife. It was her first overnight trip with me and the dog and it was 5 nights... needless to say, rain, wind, etc. for the duration of the trip. I only bought them because they were light, square "and could be zipped together". My fault for not testing it out before we left, because as the last person stated, they do not zip together and are only left zip. Bummer. She didn't feel much like snuggling with me on this trip anyway! As a single bag, it was a little pricey for the weight, but it was adequate to help keep me warm at temperatures that because of wind and rain were well below 40 degrees. Maybe it was the dog...

MSR IsoPro 4oz Premium Fuel Canister

MSR IsoPro 4oz Premium Fuel Canister

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

If you use the 4 oz. it fits in the reactor pot with the reactor burning element and saves even more room. It is unbelievably efficient, I used only one of the two canisters I brought for two people's needs for 5 days(probably 6 liters a day.

Sierra Designs Hurricane LT Parka - Men's DO NOT USE

Sierra Designs Hurricane LT Parka - Men's DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

I used this jacket during a full blown all out rainy week of hiking, and it kept me out of the wind and kept me dry. I agree that the jacket is not very breathable, and a certain amount of condensation inside was evident. However, the jacket was cheap and bought for just the type of emergency rain situation that developed. I was significantly drier than I would have been if I didn't have it. Duh... I used the money I saved to buy a lighter better tent, which was the right choice.

SmartWool Sport NTS T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

SmartWool Sport NTS T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

Actually, I use the Smartwool as my only layer in the summer when hiking. It gets filled with sweat, but wicks well and does not make me feel overheated. In fact, I prefer to wear the soft merino wool on my body as compared to a poly T-shirt. So I would actually recommend it highly. Also, when caught in the rain, I throw my rain jacket over the already wet wool T-shirt and it insulates very well.

The North Face Vario 33 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

The North Face Vario 33 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 August 21, 2008

Overall I fell like a recieved good value for a three season tent. There was a lot of thought put into the design of this tent. Comfortable in a range of temperatures, however a lot of condensation inside of tent was the trade off. I wouldn't call the tent "ultra-light" after a week of carrying it, especially with an extra pound of moisture on it, but I lived in it with my girl and an 85 pound dog, and it was like being inside a condo. Extremely easy to set up, any idiot could set this thing up in high winds in the dark!
