Polarized lenses for skiing aren't the best choice. You won't find that many that are polarized. The reason is you can't see definition of ice vs. snow with polarized lenses. I would go with a goggle that allows for a replaceable lens and then get a really dark lens. Smith has a couple great options for goggles and then you can get the Fire Sensor Mirror or the Gold Sol X Mirror. Hope this helps.

This lens is one of Smith's darkest. It has a 15% VLT rating which means it is very dark and only lets in 15% of sunlight. However, the green base makes it versatile because the green amplifies natural colors like green, brown, blue, etc. I would recommend this for blue bird days and somewhat overcast days. For snowy days this wouldn't be the best choice. Honestly a Sol X Mirror lens and a Sensor Mirror lens will cover most everyday on the mountain. The Gold Sol X Mirror is pretty sick, 7% VLT! Hope this helps.

I would highly recommend the Burton Ion for two reasons. First, it has upper and lower independent lacing, Two, they size the boot down slightly so you won't get any toe drag. I have the Imperial in size 12 on a wide board and they are amazing. The lacing points are also flush to the boot, i.e. they don't stick out like the Malamute. Hope this helps.

I believe the jacket is waterproof except for the side panels under the arms. These are a softshell stretch panel that dumps heat. These act like pit zips because the jacket doesn't have side zips. I use Spectres for ice climbing draws (clipping with gloves and all, and i use Moses biners (Mammut's equivalent to the Phantom) for racking on alpine draws and gear. No. Out of all the ice axes (not tools) and piolets out there they are probably 50/50 when it comes to rivets in the head. Some have them and some don't. For a piolet (non aggressive tool) you don't really need them. You see rivets on tools like this when the shaft is bent, leading to a more aggressive tool used for vertical-ish ice. Make sense? Hope this helps.

Otherwise, if you are doing glacier travel then the two horizontal front point crampons are the way to go. Make sense?!

"The warranty does not cover damage caused by accidents or misuse, nor does it cover the natural breakdown of materials which occur over extended use and time. (e.g. zipper failure or fabric abrasion)."
This is not lifetime.
"If it is defective, you have certain statutory rights with the store who sold the product to you."
And this quote confirms that it is at the discretion of the retailer.

That is a good question. Usually the tensile (static) strength is in lbf. and the breaking (dynamic) strength is in kN. Since this is a static cord the breaking strength is weaker because this should be used only for static conditions (anchors, etc). I think i am right, hope this helps!

All BA bags have no insulation on the bottom of the bag. This is for two main reasons: one, once insulation is compressed, i.e. lying on top, it does not insulate, so BA cut out the middle man. Second, the back of every BA bag has a full length sleeping pad sleeve that will accommodate the corresponding pad size. BA's pads are 2.5 in. thick and are incredibly comfortable. Sliding the pad in allows for the user to never slide off the pad and compromise the bag temp. rating. Also, the reduction of insulation and minimal fabric usage allows for a slightly lighter bag. I have the Pomer Hoit with an Insulated Air Core pad and the system works perfectly. You can also deflate the pad and pack the two together in one stuff sack. Any pad will fit because of the similar dimensions, they just might not be as snug! I highly recommend the BA sleeping systems.
Just read the note at the end of the product description and BC should fix it. Not using a pad with ANY sleeping bag is just wrong. A bags temp. rating is dependent on a sleeping pad of some sort. A 20 deg. bag with no pad becomes just a piece of fabric as will any other sleeping bag of any temp. rating.

I wear a 12/12.5 in the Anasazis (tight performance fit) and a 43 in the Testarossas. So that is 46/47 down to a 43, so i would suggest a 2.5-3 size down depending on how tight you want them or how tight your Anasazis are.

Man, talk about an open ended question! As far as tents go, i would look at Marmot, TNF, Big Agnes, Black Diamond, and Mountian Hardwear. They will all have comparable models with similar specs on weight and size. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck i would look at Marmot and Big Agnes. They both seem to get the weight down without really compromising on much else. Maybe the Aeolus from Marmot and the Seedhouse/Copper Spur/Emerald Mnt. lines from Big Agnes. Hope this helps. I am sure you will get multiple answers for this question. Cheers!

Any mountaineering boot that has front and back welts is compatible with this crampon. Lightweight boots usually don't have welts, but they might. The T1 tele boots would have to be on the smaller size and they would not be "compatible" per se, but they would work. Again the tele boots would not be a bomber fit, but they would work as long as they were smaller than 28 mondo maybe!? This maybe a better question for online BC chat to get a precise answer. Good luck!

That is a great question. The only retort i have is that the Vapor Meridian is just as light and offers an adjustable fitted back, interchangeable belts and straps, and has front access point. Other than that this is a great pack. The real question is why would anyone hike the AT without a Granite Gear pack in general? I mean Trauma's testing alone vilifies the company as a go big or go home pack company!

It does come with a fly. The waterproofness is great, but a footprint would be nice to improve the longevity of the tent floor. You can always by some mil plastic paper at Home Depot and cut out a footprint. That would work just as good as a footprint. You can get a big roll for $20 and cut out as many footprints as you want. This is what i do with all of my tents.

It fits everything you want just fine. If you want a couple amenities you should look at a bivy with a pole or two. BD makes one and so do Big Agnes and OR. They offer a little head room and keep the fabric off you if you have to zip it up during rain, etc. Check out the Black Diamond Lightsabre, for the money it is the best. Two poles and it only weights 3 oz. more. This TNF will work great for what you want though. Good luck and have fun on the trip.

To answer question...
1. OR has an infinite guarantee(the guy from Nordstrom's bought them way back when and duplicated the "lifetime" Nordstrom warranty) so you can take them to any OR dealer and swap them out or have the shop send them in to repair.
2. I am also size 13, 6'2" and 175lbs! (close enough) The large should be fine for the skinny legs. I have pretty athletic legs, but skinny (soccer, climbing, cycling), and they wrap around great and cinch down too.
Good Luck!

On any canister stove it is always recommended and cautioned that a windscreen should NOT be used because the fuel is inside the windscreen and could heat up and explode. There are a couple stoves that have windscreens attached to the stove element and therefore not trapping heat with the canister (Primus has one) but typically you will never see a canister stove come with a windscreen, which would be the first clue that you shouldn't do it. A wind barrier blocking the wind from a foot away or so would be the best option.

They are both really great bags and before this year i would have been hard pressed because the Marmot used to only have a 1/4 zipper. Now the zipper is full length and with the lifetime free refill and $10 wash (Marmot will refill the down in the bag for the life of the bag. That means you basically get a new bag whenever you want!), i would go with the Marmot 10 out of 10 times. The Montbell has some great features (elasticized baffles that "hug" and the cinch foot box) but unless you actually need them, then i don't think they are fully worth it. Plus Marmot was and is at the forefront of the sleeping bag market (They own 1 of only the 3 down facilities in the USA, REI is another, can't remember the third.) and their temp ratings are real world and lab tested to ensure "comfort" and "extremes". Good luck with your choice!

No. A butane canister is much like a hairspray bottle. They both have completely different connections and fuel mixes. I disagree with Angus. Any hydration pack that has any water in it balloons and would make the outside pocket smaller...considerably. If you are just using it for storage and not using the bladder or hydration capability then go for it, but then it just becomes a bag. I might recommend the BD BBee pack or Bullet, or a larger Camelbak pack. Again, this pack is fine if you will use it only as a pack and not for hydration which is what it is intended for and equipped for.
By the way, i have a Lobo, which is pretty much the same thing, and i have never been able to fit a DSLR body and one lens, much less two. At least not safely and securely.

This harness is pretty sweet! It has the same type of design as the new Arc Teryx harnesses in that the padding is very thin and lightweight. Unlike the Dead Bird harnesses, the BD Ozone, Chaos and Aura have padding as well as super lightweight design, instead of the sometimes uncomfortable no padding Arc Teryx harnesses. The gear loops are also very good and again i think they are a little better than most others out there. These are incredibly comfortable and user friendly. In the end i think the ski will just be too much for you (your dimensions) to handle. Just depends on how you ski and what you ski. I am 6'2" 175 and i would be happy with 176cm since the underfoot, shovel and tail are so huge. But...if i were exclusively doing deep backcountry powder or had this as the specific ski just for that, i might get the 183. Also, where are you skiing? Honestly i think that is enough holds. It all depends on the problems you are making and the feature of the wall. Is this vertical 20 feet? because a typical indoor route going that high has maybe 15-20 holds, with feet, (the gyms i have worked at have had 35ft walls and typically a route had 20-25 holds) in which case this would be enough. But you also want a variety of holds. If this is 20 horizontal, than you will want a few more, but more different types/sizes than just more quantity. I have worked for a few indoor gyms (East and Mountains) and climbed in 100s of competitions, to make a good boulder problem takes maybe 10-15 holds and just takes creativity and imagination...also calls for comfort. Do what comes naturally, learn to set and climb and then branch out. There is a good book from REI on Indoor Route Setting, you should get it. Oh and 1 hold per sq. ft. is good, if you can use it all, but i am assuming that you won't use most of the bottom and top corners or most of the top foot and bottom foot of the wall, so depending on orientation, that saves you some sq. ft.

These are "different" than the Thruster and the most apparent reason for the pricing is that there is only 1 pair of smalls left. Also, over all i think the Thruster are a more popular binding and therefore they can go for a higher price, lower discount.

These would be a great option. They are heavier than other AT bindings, but since you will be inbounds most of the time they will be great. Since they are heavier/burlier, they will hold up well to inbounds skiing. The lower profile is great for inbounds as well. The brake will fit over your skis (i have BD Kilowatts, 95mm) with the 110mm brake arms.

This is a great boot and you can never go wrong with Sportiva, but the Scarpa SL M3 is probably one of the best boots i have ever worn. I have multiple friends that have worn it as well and praise the comfort and longevity of the boot. Either one is a great buy...hope this helped and didn't add to the dilemma. Also this La Sportiva is crampon compatible. Do you need that, that generally means a much stiffer boot. Just something to think about. Cheers.

When did you get it? The new Supersafe is Blue on Blue. I have last seasons and it is Green and Yellow. That is probably my best guess. Is the diameter close to the Supersafe (10.2)??? Or the Revelation, but that is 9.2.

It depends on the type of fit you want. I size down in Scarpa about 3 sizes, but i like a glove fit. I would size down probably 1 size if you want a good fit and 1.5-2 if you are looking for a glove fit. This shoe will also stretch about 1/4-1/2 size down the road. Oh, 7-7.5 US is 37.5-38 Euro.

I know this answer is really late, but better late than never. If you haven't bought tools yet i can highly recommend these. The shaft diameter is much like the BD Reactor, not super familiar with the Aztar. The handle is grippy, a trigger can be installed, and the hole at the top is for an extra leash or some sort of extra attachment. The leash is webbing all around the loop, but cinches tighter with the velcro. The leash does attach at the knob, but the knob is a push button and all you do to take the leash off the tool is push in and rotate (it is a lot like the android from BD). Hope that helps.

Just as fast and more practical when it comes to maintenance and improvisation if it breaks. Super strong though, just like the BOA, so i don't see it breaking and have never seen one broken. My shoes are 4 years old and still kicking hard.

As far as i know (never used it in the scenario you describe) the DSP offsets beacon responses by a millisecond to make sure you hear all the beacons. You can flag one at a time and still get the multiple beeps. Again, i have not used it in the situation you describe. Plus, i think if you have 4 searching you could flag one at a time and basically do a process of elimination to find the exact spot for each beacon.

Between those two shoes there is not really a comparison. However, if you combined the two of those you might get the Feroce. The Testerossa is too downturned and has a tighter toe-box and the Katana is the opposite, not as downturned and a bigger toe-box. The Miura might be more of a comparison. As far as fit goes i would shoot for a 1/2 size bigger if you wear climbing shoes tight. I wear a 43 Katana and Miura and a 44 in Feroce.

I have owned D and T grip shovels and don't notice a huge benefit from the d grip other than it is easier to grab. The different grip is based on what glove/mitten you wear. With a T-grip you can't use a mitten, at least with ease. All BD shovels have a ground out T-grip so you can use either mitten or glove.

There is jacket to pant compatibility. There are fabric loops on the hip sides and i believe centered in the back so that most Burton jackets can use the button loops to attach. Hope that helped.

Just wondering why a lot of people are giving this a horrible review! The jacket is not windproof! it says so on the tech sheet. Not to mention is is Polartec Thermal, not Windpro or Powershield. Get your facts straight people. Also it says it is a sweater knit, as in cotton sweater (aka loose) knit that is never a tight weave and therefore could never be windproof or even provide any wind protection. This is a great hoody, i have one and love it. I use it as a midlayer, like Backcountry recommends!
