Backcountry.com Cocona Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 August 5, 2009

I'm a smidgen under 5'11", probably 165lbs~. And as one of my smarta$$ coworkers says, I'm emaciated. What ever.:-) I like 'wiry' or lean...see what happens when you work with all women?I bought two large shirts and they are tight where the sleeve joins the body of the shirt. Like not comfortable on my HUGE! arms.Going to send those back! Nice colors though...

Nice but...

Backcountry.com Prime Power Stretch Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Backcountry.com Prime Power Stretch Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 April 1, 2009

I spent 10 days wearing this top in Seattle. By the time I came home, the left cuff had come completely unstitched, most of the right cuff as well, and the hem was on the way.
Other then that, this is a great piece of fleece. Layered it under other fleece, gore-tex, or a soft shell. Great for casual wearing. Sucks about the stitching though.

Best. Shorts. Ever!

Fox Attack Bike Short - Men's

Fox Attack Bike Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 23, 2009

I think I have four pairs of these shorts. Yes, I'm a bike clothing whore.

Found them to be incredible comfortable on the bike, very cool and the pad is comfortable. Off the bike they feel like a loaded diaper, which isn't good, but hey, just get on the bike and ride!

I'm concerned about the quality, on two of my pairs, the little mesh fox head thing is starting to de-laminate, and the welded pockets are unwelding.

If you live in a hot place, they are great shorts. With the removable liner, you can wear one outer pair with different liners, great for a bike trip.

Good Shoes

Northwave Bike Kameleon Mountain Bike Shoe - Men's

Northwave Bike Kameleon Mountain Bike Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 23, 2009

I've been wearing NW shoes for several years now, I like them better then sidis (previous shoe, not very stiff), or Nike (Cairns RIP), or Specialized. I find the Kamelons to be very comfortable for my big feet. Stiff enough for riding, not to bad for the occasional hike-a-bike. And they don't look like space man shoes.

One draw back to the shoes is that there isn't a lot of protection on them (they are more XC then anything else), so had the misfortune of having a piece of bamboo slide around the instep sole, then puncture the leather (pleather?) and into my foot. I glued the hole shut and have been using them ever since. That pair is near death as they are starting to tear around where the material is joined to the sole.

I find they fit big, I wear a 45 in most other cycling shoes and a 44 is spot on. Nice and ventilated, occasionally after a dirty ride, I have very dirty toes. I dumped the included spikes and replaced them with soccer/football cleats, works a lot better. The buckle is surprisingly robust.

All in all, I really like the shoes. I'm looking for another pair.

Fox Commando Bike Jersey - Half-Sleeve - Men's

Fox Commando Bike Jersey - Half-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 February 23, 2009

Just don't like the 3/4 sleeve. Doesn't work for me. I either wear full sleeves if it's a hot/sunny day or I'm going DH'ing, or a shortsleeve for most days. Have also the found the jersey to be warm, perhaps due to all the iron on decals. Normally I'm a huge fox fan.

On the fence

Sherpani Rumba Superlight Kid Carrier

Sherpani Rumba Superlight Kid Carrier

Rating for this product: 3 January 7, 2009

I've been using this pack for about a year now. Took the kid out this past Sunday for a hike up 1,000 railroad tracks up the side of a mountain. When I last used the pack, three months ago, my son was happy and slept the hike. Yesterday he was just upset and cried most of the time. Figured out that there's a rough spot where multiple pieces of nylon come together on the lower part of the frame and it rubbed his legs raw. It seems to be a quality issue/design flaw. For that reason, I'm going to look into another pack. I like the light weight, but have decided that it's too minimalist for me. I jury rigged a Camelback to the back so I could drink water on the go (instead of having someone behind me get it out or flip the pack out). When it's loaded, it is heavy and somewhat difficult to get on my back. The fact that it doesn't compress very much while on my back hasn't been an issue for me, but I tend to hike in fairly open areas and I don't wear it in crowds of people. My son is 18 months old, probably 22 pounds and maybe 25 inches tall? He's not real big.
