  • Stomping Grounds:

All over the Western US, Alps, Antarctica, Himalays
  • Bio:

Oddly enough, I was awarded the Shipton-Tilman Grant in '97 for a solo, winter, unsupported sea kayak expedition through 1600km of the Inside Passage, have done solo sea kayak expeditions along some of the most unfriendly areas of the Alaskan coast that were firsts or rarely done solo, at a pace of 65-100 km a day. I"m an ice, alpine, and rock climber (Antarctica, Alaska Range (including Denali), Alps, Himalayas, Dolomites, Western US, Northeastern US). Also done numerous solo 800 - 1600+ km bike trips across Alaska and the Yukon, in both summer and winter, at a pace of 130-290 km a day, camping unsupported, biked through the tundra in temperatures as cold as -45 F degrees below zero, and competed in a 600 mile canoe race on the Yukon River in Yukon territories that started with a hike over a snowy mtn pass with a 50 lb pack (required, not my idea, since the pack weighed half my body weight but we won first male/female team!) in 4 days. I've also given lectures and workshops in New York City on winter kayaking, winter survival strategies, navigation, tides and currents, and expedition planning, and been a gear tester for many companies, blabiddy.

Marmot Power Stretch Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Marmot Power Stretch Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Super comfy, warm, perfect to wear climbing as a warm easy to move in layer over a climbing top or thin long sleeve top. Perfect for over base layer shirts and under a puffy or shell. If you're a fan of hoods with thumb loops you'll be psyched. I take it every where I climb.

Rad jumper, not great fit on the chest though

Kavu Westbay Dress - Women's

Kavu Westbay Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 23, 2009

So I ordered this for my day job because I love wearing bamboo, the anti microbial and all that, but the boob area was too big, I had to ponder getting it altered, so i have it and still have not worn it, although the product itself is high quality as is the material, it's just the fit around the chest was not good. I'd recommend this but see if you can measure exactly or try it in a store then order it from backcountry.com because they rock.

Best bra for all sports

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

I have tried so many sports bras. I'm like a 34b, and I bought one of these Patagonia Active Mesh Bra's one or two years ago and since then..well I have like 5 now. The wicking is 100% fantastic. I use them for climbing, training/gym, running, river trips, ice climbing, mountaineering, travel, you name it. They dry fast, wear very comfortably, and look great. The only con is the uniboob effect but who care's when you're out there doin it, and I usually choose a more relaxed sports bra for hanging around camp, etc. I mean, these are comfortable but I do get an XS vs a S which is tight for 34b but it's great for high impact sports. Maybe do a size that fits for comfort, one size down for a solid fight like when you don't want them going anywhere.

Great product but their half cube is better

Eagle Creek Pack-It Koala

Eagle Creek Pack-It Koala

Rating for this product: 3 March 23, 2009

I bought this for international travel, used it hard core for 2 years and for my last trip finally was sick of it, too confining, and bought an Eagle Creek Half Cube instead: http://www.backcountry.com/store/EAG0008/Eagle-Creek-Pack-It-Half-Cube.html It is far more efficient to use and easier since .. I mean how many places have a place for you to hang something...so you end up with this flap that gets in the way. It's a great product but the half cube I found is more user and travel friendly, less restrictive, than this. The design is solid though.

Highly comfy, Lets out too much heat, defeats the purpose

The North Face TKA 100 Fleece Pant - Women's

The North Face TKA 100 Fleece Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 23, 2009

I bought the smallest size, I'm 5'2", and the length was too long. They are extremely comfortable and great for camping/sleeping in, hanging around, but don't take them to the Desert...I'm just sayin'..But, great design yet I think the leg width below the knee is too wide too. Lets out too much heat, defeats the purpose.

Totally Solid

Grivel G12 Crampon

Grivel G12 Crampon

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

It was time to finally bail on my Rambo's sadly so after much research I bought these and have been pretty much totally psyched about them. Very user friendly, easy to use, performance is great, I could go into technical detail but I'm not paid for this so I'll just say my man borrowed them to climb Denali (ten years after i climbed it) and he loved them as well. Ice, alpine, they are great.

Cloudveil Inversion Vest - Women's

Cloudveil Inversion Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2009

I loved this at first but now I think the shell fabric was not the best choice in their design. It is a great fit, top product, totally solid, warm, does the trick, looks good too, but I now wish they'd chosen a softer outer shell lining. I love the lined, soft hand pockets. This is not a technical vest or anything, but great for around town.

Suprised at how great these are

Eagle Creek Pack-It Shoe Sac

Eagle Creek Pack-It Shoe Sac

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

So, these are rad. I bought two, one for me and one for my sweety before a trip. They are super light, totally flexible to roll up and stash and totally keep the mud in, and even the smell I think after nasty trips, the rest of your stuff is safe if you need to toss this in with the rest of your stuff. I won't travel without these.

Love it

Patagonia Stefka Tank Top - Women's

Patagonia Stefka Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

Yeah, this is a must have for all of us. I think I've taken this top on every travel trip I've done, both internation/adventure and non. Super comfy, dries quickly and it dresses up with an outdoor quality skirt really easily for a night out, you can just use it for everything. It's so nice I won't climb in it.

Super bomber

Mountain Hardwear Juggernaut 115 Roller Bag - 7000cu in

Mountain Hardwear Juggernaut 115 Roller Bag - 7000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

Mountain Hardwear lent me this to review and from the moment I pulled it, it was magic. I mean, this roller is super burly it puts the rest to shame. You will never use a duffel again. They put super stable skate wheels on these. I've pulled this along gravel, dirt, ice, it's perfect. Inside, the main compartment is huge. I've put clothes, a pack, my whole Ice Climbing kit in there, ski poles, and the smaller compartments are very user friendly, you can stuff this then really synch it down. It's made it under the wire each time with the airlines. I also bought the 85 juggernaut for when I can't take such a large bag/don't need it. These are waterproof for standard travel scenarios. It would take a lot to damage the contents or the bag itself.

less than awesome

Patagonia Active Classic Cami - Women's

Patagonia Active Classic Cami - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 23, 2009

I don't know, I bought it, and I never wear it. It's not a bad product but it's just not comfortable. Fine for wearing under things, I guess the detail they think women want with the side design ...well it's just silly. No shape, just scary uniboob scenario. No redeeming qualities except i'm sure it wicks well, and travels well. I wouldn't bother with this item. This item is rad though: patagonia pinback top, but BC doesn't carry it

Great for climbing, hiking, and travel

Mountain Hardwear Shasta Pedal Pusher Short - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Shasta Pedal Pusher Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

I've climbed in the Dolomites with these, I always travel with them: hiking, climbing, camping, around town. The fit is really awesome, I love the internal string. The material is extremely soft and comfy, you could nap in them. For climbing I thought they perform really well: stretchy. I tried a LOT of different capri's and finally purchased these and love them. Look good too

GoLite Calmus Shoe - Women's

GoLite Calmus Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 27, 2007

GoLite actually gave me a pair but I wore them all summer, before and after climbing, around town, on road trips, they are totally comfy and fun to wear. I found them very comfortable, you can run in them, kick them off easily to chill, and you can even use them to hike mellow trails for cragging
