  • Bio:

Nothing beats the sights, sounds and smells of being out in nature enjoying all she has to offer. One of my favorite mt. biking experiences this year was a rainy day in the forest outside Bellingham, WA. It rained non-stop. Riding was a bit sketchy because the roots and rocks are "slippery when wet." Even though it was wet and slick it was one of the best rides of the season.

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

February 4, 2009

The cutout is for poling on climbs/traverses. With the cutout the pole gets a better purchase in the snow than it would with a full round basket. I've had my Traverse poles for 7 or 8 years and the baskets don't spin on their own. I put the cutout where it needs to be (on the front side of the pole, for climbing) and it stays there.

MontBell Alpine Light Down Jacket - Men's

MontBell Alpine Light Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2008

This is a must have whether you spend lots of time in the outdoors or just live in a cold climate and use it for running around town.

As another reviewer said this jacket is big on warmth and very lightweight. If your packing it for a backcountry trip you won't even know it's in your pack. But you'll be glad you brought it along when it's time to unskin at the top. It's a great way to eliminate those "unskinning chills".

The only downside to this jacket is that the ripstop nylon is ultralight, which means it's likely to be sensitive to abrasions. Don't carry your skis on your shoulder if this is your outer layer. You might not like the results.
