Easy on and off for a first timer on a split trip

Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampon

Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampon

Rating for this product: 4 May 19, 2009

I picked these up for my recent splitboard trip up Mt Whitney in the Eastern Sierras. I had never used crampons before but I was told to get some in my kit. They worked great on my board soft boots. I wear a size 11.5 in Salomon Malamute's and these fit fine all though just barely so careful if you have larger feet. They are light compact and will last for years in steel

40 Days in it this year

Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2009

First of all this jacket looks great. I got it in red at the beginning of the season and have worn it day in and day out. As far as fit goes it's great. At 6'4 230 the length or arms and torso are perfect. I like a baggier fit (but not draping off me) and this is just right for me. Waterproofing is amazing. Rode in the rain and stayed relatively dry. A good amount of pockets and the chest IPOD pocket within a pocket is great. I've carried my iphone in there almost everyday and it has survived. Hood fits well also. If I had one complaint it would be that in the powder the cuff velcro can get saturated with snow and prohibit the velcro from adhering. I have to make sure to really clean of the cuff from snow or I'll have the cuff closure straps flapping. Otherwise I love it

Go to jacket these days

Backcountry.com Siphon Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Siphon Wool Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 27, 2009

Love this piece. Read all the reviews and I was sold. The wool looks quite classy for a techy piece of gear. the backcountry logos add nice flair and the fit is just fitted enough for my liking without being too tight. I'm 6'4 230 and the XL works well. Perhaps a little short if your torso is long though

Great for Snow Sports

Black Diamond Alpine CF Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Black Diamond Alpine CF Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 3 March 27, 2009

The tech specs say backpacking and hiking but I've used these to snowshoe and skin up the mountain on my splitboard and they work great. Really light in the pack too. My only complaint would be that when fully stowed the cam locks don't fully lock down on the narrow end and adjusting the screw would cause the cams to be too tight when locking the poles out into hiking mode. Overall very nice and light.

So comfortable and always a good layer add on. Usually just wear it alone on mild fall/spring days. I'm 6'4 230 and I wear the xxl as a pullover sweatshirt outerlayer and it's perfect

K2 Gyrator Snowboard

K2 Gyrator Snowboard

Rating for this product: 4 February 25, 2009

such a fun board. I've been riding this almost exclusively these days since luckily tahoe has been getting dumped on. It really does float as advertised and it's super responsive. I'm a big guy, 6'4 230lb and i ride the 168 no problem. I love snapping of natural hits with this thing. so fun. Sadly I slammed a hidden land mine and tore through to the core. The base seems a little thin on further inspection but i guess what do you expect when you bomb onto a rock.

4 Seasons of Steep and Deep

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 18, 2009

I have to say that I will never buy another snowboard boot. I've had the malamutes for 4 seasons and 200+ days of hard charging and they get more comfortable every day of riding. I"m 6'4 240 lbs and lay every ounce of it into every turn and I revel in the stiff response I get. From powder to groomers to hard pack steeps I swear by these.
