Compared to regular Denali jacket...

The North Face Denali Wind Pro Fleece Jacket - Men's

My regular Denali is worn and dirty but still my most used jacket. I bought the new windproof version for replacement and will retire the old one to a zip in shell liner for the matching shell.
The new Denali is much better against the wind than the regular Denali (which is not really saying much since that one let every breeze through) but definitely not as effective as a dedicated wind shell.
The loss of pit zips is a big deal as I tend to keep them open all the time for sweat ventilation except when I need the extra warmth. I'm even considering having a local tailor add them to this jacket.
It also seems to be thinner than the regular Denali though that is possibly just due to the new version having a smoother outside compared to the regular Denali scruffy fleece out and in.
So... the loss of pit zips is my main negative on this otherwise a great general purpose action jacket.

No pit zips? So I guess I will retire my existing Denali into a permanent zip in liner for my shell (will hide its wear that way anyway) and use this one for my all around jacket. Will be nice to not worry about the wind so much anymore as with the regular Denali.

Just wanted to point out that the "Hydration Compatible: No" listed on the Specs is incorrect as this monster does indeed have a bladder pocket, accessed by a horizontal zipper on the back above the shoulder straps, and has a bladder clip and double zipper pulls and zipper cover flap so you can exit the tube from either side (or anywhere in between).

Haven't used it yet but just a few notes:
The bottom compartment swallows a large Bear Vault cannister easily through the Big Mouth zipper with lots of room left over.
Zippered internally hanging flap-pocket {about 6" x 10", waterproof?} on the back (above the hydration pocket) with a key leash clip inside.

That's a lot of kite. I'd do a test to see how compact those kites can pack. Use your kite bag or borrow a friend's backpack to experiment. Also might want to check with the kite-maker to see if there are any problems squeezing them super tight i.e. air bladder problems, and definitely would want any battens to be removable.
