The North Face S.T.H. Glove

The North Face S.T.H. Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

I ordered these for the cold Afghanistan winter and my return to Alaska in January/February. The winters in Afghanistan consists of biting winds. These gloves do a great job of blocking wind, keeping my individual fingers warm, and have a very nice overall design. The texture on the palms and fingers allow me to do everything I need without having to remove my gloves.

The North Face Ninja Glove - Men's

The North Face Ninja Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 October 17, 2008

Light gloves with dexterity is what I thought I was getting - what I ended up with was a kids oriented glove with very slick surfaces where one needs to have grip for outdoor winter activities. The slime green may appeal to some - it made me give mine away.

Warmth and comfort

The North Face Flash Fleece Beanie

The North Face Flash Fleece Beanie

Rating for this product: 4 October 17, 2008

My hat size is 7 3/8 and the medium fits comfortably. I like every aspect of the beanie except it is a tad short in covering the bottom of my ears (my ears aren't large by any means!). You know a beanie is 'it' when you forget you have it on and just wear it all day long. Brisk chilly winds - your mom would be proud you take of yourself.

Base layers don't get much better

Marmot Lightweight Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Marmot Lightweight Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

I wear these for my base layers whether I'm working or playing. I spend six months in some of the harshest conditions in Afghanistan and th other six back home in Alaska. My gear only gets one chance for repeat use and this Marmot performed so well I bought more. They provide the 'comfort' level of warmth without generating overheating conditions. The fit, finish, and feel are second to none.

Loungewear, not's sportswear

Sport Science Polywool Pullover and Beanie Package - Men's

Sport Science Polywool Pullover and Beanie Package - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 October 17, 2008

It's comfortable to lounge around in, but I didn't like the lack of wicking I expected. I agree with Marko K's review on the pilling - that is a major disappointment. If this combo wasn't so relaxing to wear, I'd give it one star.

Perfect 3 season bag

The North Face Snowshoe Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Polarguard - Women's

The North Face Snowshoe Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Polarguard - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2007

My wife really enjoyed camping with this sleeping bag. We held off on writing this review until 'her' camping season was over. It is very well engineered and had just the right fit for her. We bought this one based on my very good experience with my NorthFace Goliath 3D bag and we definitely are pleased with this one. A good night's rest with plenty of warmth and remaining dry is exactly what this bag provides.

High performance for low cost

Harmony Typhoon Dry Bag

Harmony Typhoon Dry Bag

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2007

We have used this bag numerous times on our outdoor adventures and just love it. Although it appears a tad on the flimsy side, it has stood the test of a full Alaskan summer of adventures and is still performing just like new. The see-through feature is one of the most innovative yet simple applied to adventure gear. We only take Typhoon bags now with us on water-related activities and camping.

Great Alaska summer sleeping bag

The North Face Tigger Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield HL

The North Face Tigger Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield HL

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2007

My son is finally at an age where he can actively participate in our family outings. This sleeping bag is just what we needed for him to enjoy camping with his two-year old level of independence. He seems to enjoy the bag and we are happy with the quality of materials and level of comfort it provides. It packs light and you definitely cannot beat the warranty.

Suunto - a very good watch

Suunto Vector Altimeter Watch

Suunto Vector Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 4 October 10, 2007

I've used my Suunto Vector Alt during all of my deployments to Southwest Asia and it has performed near perfection. The altimeter and compass are essential as well as the rugged durability. The only reason I do not give it a five rating is due to it's single time zone. It would be nice to have zulu time as well as local available.
