The North Face Verto 26 Backpack - 1600cu in

The North Face Verto 26 Backpack - 1600cu in

Great top-loader for alpine trips. You can use it as a stuff sack in your approach pack and break it out for light is right summit attempts.

I've tried multi-purposing this pack and using it for long trad multi-pitch, but you have to be careful with it here. It performs only mediocre in this role. No chimneys and no hauling for sure. After a single route, the pack developed 2 small holes in the nylon where it had scraped against sandstone. I patched them and took it as a lesson to not overuse this pack.

Sterling Fusion Nano Dry Single Rope - 9.2mm

Sterling Fusion Nano Dry Single Rope - 9.2mm

Rating for this product: 3 March 17, 2011

The sheath is wearing much faster than I would like. Probably have ~40 pitches of trad on this rope and the sheath is showing tons of deepish abrasions. No core shots yet. It also seems to love the dirt.

It is super light and handles smooth, but I wouldn't buy it again.

La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 18, 2010

pros : lightweight, stiff enough for anything besides vertical ice, comfortable, fairly grippy soles even on wet rock.cons : not all the durable (a couple seasons w/ a lot of cross country travel will have the woven material extremely frayed), pretty narrow, definitely needs a nice sole or superfeet insole

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Men's

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 18, 2010

give me some pit zips and I would love this thing.

6'3" 185 and the XL is good for layering over anything from a tshirt to down jacket. The eVent material is easily the best shell material out there and tougher than I expected - the material across the back of mine stands up to me shoving pickets, ice axes, and trekking poles between my back and pack without even a scratch. The hood works well with a helmet.

love it. 6'3" 185 and the L is a little snug, but tolerable. I can wear it for 4 hard days and no funk. The zipper pocket is great for stashing some quick energy food

good gloves

Stoic Welder Glove

Stoic Welder Glove

Rating for this product: 4 September 18, 2010

great performance on cold mixed alpine routes. goatskin holds up well to belaying/rappeling.

As another review below said I do feel the zipper ridge at my index finger knuckles when gripping anything. Also, the gauntlet isn't great for me, too thick to easily get my jacket cuffs over (stoic event stash) and not tight enough zipped to stuff the cuffs in.

Mine get a little soggy after long days on ice/snow, but still my go to glove for cold weather when I need decent dexterity.
