Nice shoes, but should've bought a size bigger

Scarpa Zen Approach Shoe - Men's

Scarpa Zen Approach Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 21, 2009

Shoes are bomb, very tough and comfortable. I use them as knock-arounds, casual to work, whatever.

However, the sizing is a definite issue. Be aware that what Scarpa calls a US-11 is more like a US 10.
I normally wear a 10.5-11, depending on the manufacturer. I purchased the EU 44.5, which Scarpa says on the label is equivalent to a US 11. This shoe is barely wearable for me. My toes touch the front of the shoe and I could not use them on a long hike in the woods for fear of blisters or toenail damage.

Perhaps, because they are scrambling shoes meant for light climbing, that they are cut a little tighter which might make them more useful on the rocks. But for casual wear and walking, they are too tight. Go up a half size for sure.

Comfortable pad, not warm for everyone

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core REM Sleeping Pad

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core REM Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 July 5, 2007

my girlfriend and I both bought this pad, which is definitely very comfortable compared to my thin thermarest. however, although I was warm using it, she has had trouble staying warm through the night. She uses the full Big Agnes system with a bag and pad, so she has no insulation under her bag other than the sleeping pad. I have a different brand bag so I'm surrounded by down insulation plus the bag.
My point is, if you really like to be super warm at night, you might want to consider the colder rated pad or a thermarest, because they are solid foam and probably a little better for insulation.
