Not really for running.

The North Face Philter Shoe - Men's

The North Face Philter Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 October 10, 2007

This shoe is billed as capable of trailrunning but that's pretty far from the truth. It's not that it's not comfortable, but it seriously lacks the support and cushioning that you would expect out of any shoe designed to be run in, for longer than a few feet. Relatively lightweight and ventilated, but since I was looking for a running shoe primarily and the rest seemed cool too, I ended up returning mine.

The North Face Arnuva 50 BoaTrail Running Shoe - Men's

Not a bad running shoe, very comfortable, no blisters, but still a little frustrating. The durability is a little disappointing for something coming from a brand with the reputation of The North Face. Nothing outrageous, minor rips on the fabric at the heel of one shoe, and the coloring on the soles are rubbing off like crazy. The BOA's a little frustrating, I think I could tie laces to the same tightness more consistently than I could with this cable system. It is really cool though. And it is nice to be able to just turn the wheel to tighten it all up without having to retie the shoes. Fix the durability issue and I'd be a lot happier. I should note that I'm deployed in Iraq and these shoes spend all their time walking on packed gravel. Nothing outrageous, but I'm sure it's had some impact on their performance.
