Osprey Packs Atmos 65 Pack - 3800-4200 cu in

March 18, 2008

I checked this pack out in an REI store. I love the pack, but it seems alot smaller than most 65L packs. Does it expand really well, or do other people notice this too? Also, how's the durability of the material? Seems thin

Salomon Explore Stretch Jacket - Men's

Salomon Explore Stretch Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2008

Awesome jacket! Comfortable, stylish, and completely waterproof as advertised. Yes, it has an athletic fit...it doesn't leave room for tons of layers underneath. It isn't a ski jacket, it's a rain jacket. It leaves room for a couple good layers without making you look like you're wearing a tent when you wear it around town. No pitzips, but it makes the jacket lighter and it breathes well enough for everything but the hardest cardio activities. Great buy and a great product!

Awesome Jacket

66 North Iceland Sulur Softshell Jacket - Men's

66 North Iceland Sulur Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2007

When I bought this jacket I was extremely impressed with the quality and design. I couldn't believe that a softshell could be so waterproof and windproof, yet it seemed to be even more breathable than GORE-TEX. For this reason they didn't add pit zips, which I didn't like because even the most breathable softshells out there sometimes aren't vented enough when you're really working up a sweat. The other drawbacks are the pockets are small and few, and the hood was too small to wear over a helmet...fortunately it can zip off. If you don't need lots of pockets and don't wear a helmet, BUY THIS JACKET! Great value!

Amazing, but...

Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2007

Pros: The quality and performance of this jacket is indisputable. Built to last, and you could wear it in a hurricane and stay warm and dry. Great fit, great style, and some useful ideas like the off-center zipper and stretch back panel.
Con: The 'fit and finish' of the jacket is pretty weak for something that retails for over $500. You do get what you pay for, since the jacket is a great weather barrier...unfortunately, there isn't much else to it. Few pockets, no soft collar around the neck, and the hood is small for most helmets.
Looking for a great performance shell? Buy the sidewinder, but buy it on sale.

Great overall jacket...

Patagonia White Smoke Jacket - Men's

Patagonia White Smoke Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 20, 2007

I was very impressed by the design and feel of this jacket. I had every intention of keeping it until the Arcteryx sidewinder came on SAC for the same price. Overall, I liked the White smoke better. It was more comfortable, and I thought the style was more attractive. I kept the sidewinder because of the Gore-Tex windproofing, which really, is the key to a good shell. For all but the worst of weather, you'll be happy with the white smoke!

Icebreaker Superfine190 Tech T - Men's

Icebreaker Superfine190 Tech T - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 13, 2007

This was my first Merino wool product so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I still can't get over how much of a difference a t-shirt can make in comfort level. These shirts can be worn in such a variety of conditions that they're worth every penny. Lightweight, comfortable, and definitely live up to the hype. *If you want an athletic fit, buy a size smaller than you'd expect.
