G3 Alpinist elle Climbing Skins - Women's

February 15, 2010

How do you adjust the length on these to fit your skis? It looks like the clips on each end are permanently attached but the lengths are a range so there must be a way to adjust them to fit your ski. Anyone know before I decide on ordering these?

Mountain Hardwear Annamite Softshell Jacket - Women's

December 10, 2009

I have the predecessor to this jacket and LOVE IT! I actually have damaged mine (long story) and have now asked for this one again this year. A small would be perfect for her as they are fairly true to size and she wants a bit of room for layering underneath. If not for that I'd say get an XS...but you want a little room. This is the only windstopper soft shell I have found that has pit zips, which I have found a necessary. I use this jacket ice climbing and on backcountry skiing...it is my "go to" jacket and can't say enough good things about it. I have the light blue and find that it gets dirty really easily, though, even though the color is gorgeous. I'm going with the green this time but it will probably get dirty too. The advantage is that you can wash it (in TechWash of course), but if that is a real concern (if she is as active as I am) go with black.

Don't Climb w/o This!

Metolius PAS Personal Anchor System w/ Element Locking Carabiner

Metolius PAS Personal Anchor System w/ Element Locking Carabiner

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2009

I got this PAS last year and finally had to get my boyfriend one for Christmas because I got tired of sharing it! As other reviews have noted, this system is exponentially safer than a daisy chain and so versatile. Ice climbing in the backcountry can present some pretty odd belaying angles and I never have to worry with this system because I can use any one of the loops. Relegate your old daisy chain to gear racking and upgrade now!

Exped DownMat Sleeping Pad-DO Not Use

Exped DownMat Sleeping Pad-DO Not Use

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2008

I've had this mat for 2 years and have been extolling its virtues to all my outdoor enthusiast friends. It is so light and so compact and so warm and comfortable. It packs down so small and the stuff sack works great as your pillow. The biggest drawback is blowing it up with the stuff sack, which is very frustrating. I actually gave up and blow it up with my mouth, which puts moisture on the down and eventually will force me to buy a new one - but is will be worth it. Don't buy any other mat if want luxury and superlight!

Fantastic Mountaineering Pants!

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pant - Women's

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 11, 2007

I climbed Rainier in 20+ mile an hour (gusting into the low 30s) winds with just these pants and a mid-weight wool long underwear layer and they were fantastic. Warm, waterproof, breathable and comfortable. I highly, highly recommend these for extreme winter sports. I know now which pants I'll be backcountry skiing in this winter!
