Best tights I've tried thus far.

Salomon EXO II 3/4-Tight - Men's

Salomon EXO II 3/4-Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 11, 2009

Despite some initial reservations, I am very pleased with the Salomon EXO II tight. Unlike the CW-X tights, of which I own four different models, the Salomon have true flat-stitched seams throughout, which allow them to be worn comfortably and chafe-free without underwear. The material also feels very sleek and is decidedly lightweight, ideal for warm-weather use. Even compared to the CW-X Ventilator, which utilizes mesh panels to keep things cool, the Salomon EXO II felt much cooler. Accordingly, they would be rubbish in the cold, so don't even think about it. When used on a recent 18-mile trail run, I finished with legs that felt fresh and ready for more. I don't know if that is entirely due to the tights, but they certainly seemed to help; my quads and hamstrings felt much better than my unsupported calves. If only Salomon made the EXO II in a full-length design.

PRO: Lightweight, super-stretchy, breathable material. Excellent support. Flat seams throughout (no chafing). Attractive design.

CON: Not available in full-length. 3/4 length may cause bunching behind knees, but only if you have huge calves (I do)

CW-X Ventilator Tight - Men's

April 9, 2009

I am of similar height and weight, and the CW-X medium size fits me very well. While I have no direct experience with the Ventilator tights, I do own three of their other tights. I find the sizing to be consistent among them, so I feel confident that the Ventilator will be sized similarly.

UPDATE: I recently bought a pair of the Ventilator, and the medium size fits me perfectly.

CW-X Pro Tights - Men's

October 21, 2008

The CW-X Ventilator is designed specifically for warm-temperature workouts. Additionally, they have shorts and 3/4-length variants of some other models.Generally, CW-X tights are non-insulated. Insulated variants are, appropriately, called Insulator (e.g. Insulator Pro, Insulator Stabilyx).

CW-X Pro Tights - Men's

October 21, 2008

I must recommend wearing underwear with CW-X tights. The main seam (that which goes front to back, through the crotch) is not flat-stitched, which could lead to some incredibly uncomfortable chafing in a very sensitive area. Strangely, this is the only non-flat seam on the garment, and I feel it represents a huge design flaw. Nonetheless, I swear by my CW-X tights (Pro and Stabilyx) and highly recommend them.
