Got Foot Problems? This Boots for You!

Salomon Adventure Trek 7 GTX - Women's

Salomon Adventure Trek 7 GTX - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 26, 2004

Very, very good boot for the money; and will fit almost any foot. Recommended for people with foot problems. Size: my street shoes are a 5 - a size 6 is a perfect fit in this boot. Support: Very good (I was carrying approx. 15#, could have handled more). Fit: excellent fit in ankle/heel & excellent toe box fit. Grip: excellent. Waterproofness: excellent. Comfort: right out of the box. “Bells & Whistles”: enough to keep me happy. Complaints: Tongue doesn’t stay put (note: this could change w/ wear). To the boot manufacturers I would have this to say: give us more rubber on the bottom, keep the tongue attached so it doesn’t pop out & how about a Velcro strip near the top that you can lay the laces underneath to hold them in place.
I gave this boot 5 stars as I’m hoping I can resolve the problem with the tongue & it did awesome in all my other categories.

UCO Candle Lantern Red

UCO Candle Lantern Red

Rating for this product: 3 August 18, 2003

I had major problems keeping the thing together. If I moved the glass at all (you need to slide it down to light the candle for instance), the bottom would come loose and fall off completely. Also, the 3 little arms on top don't lock into the base, they just hang on the lip, which isn't much and the slightest touch & it would fall apart. Minor design adjustments that could be resolved easily, but left as is could cause major problems such as a fire. The candle does burn nice and bright and last quite awhile so that's good. However, I didn't trust the thing to hang or leave unattended.

GoLite Race Backpack - 2700 cu in

GoLite Race Backpack - 2700 cu in

Rating for this product: 3 August 12, 2003

I love the advances in backpack technology -especially the new ultra-light materials. The Golite Race (& Speed) come so close to being perfect but for me, miss the boat where it counts. Let's face it, few people are true minimalists & maybe that's all these packs are for. Because: once you put any weight into these packs they droop on you like a sack of potatoes. One guy says he chucked the platypus. Well, yeah-you'd have to because with any amount of water in the hydration sleeve you immediately feel the pack start to sag. Add other weighty items & it sags even more. What good are features if you can't use them? These ultralite packs are great for bulky items like clothes & sleeping bag (& they must be packed full or they are useless)-but lets face it most of us need stuff like food, water, lights...forget it. My perfect pack is a hybrid, combining the best of both worlds; ultralite & comfort. The material is awesome & can hold the weight, but the packs need some support on the sides & bottom & compression straps. I'll keep watching for my "dream pack" & hope the manufacturers can see the benefit of the demands of consumers like myself who want the best technology available without compromising comfort.

Loved Them

Tubbs Pinnacle Series Snowshoes - Womens

Tubbs Pinnacle Series Snowshoes - Womens

Rating for this product: 4 April 24, 2003

I don't know why the previous reviewer had problems. I wore my Pinnacles all winter hiking in the Catskills, Adirondacks & other places. We trekked through really deep snow, melting snow, packed, fluffy & icy. Straight up & straight down. I got up places easier than anyone with my crampons & while others struggled in the frigid temps with their bindings, mine went on in a snap. My binding came loose once—it was my fault & it never happened again. They are a bit heavy due to the huge crampons & binding but it was never a problem & I'm only 5'1" & 104lbs. The only thing I've found out is once spring hits & you need snowshoes you can carry on your pack, these are cumbersome, due to the features I loved the most. Because the crampons are big & the binding doesn't lay totally flat, they are a pain to load on your back. I'll probably buy another pair for less $$/on sale that pack better for intermittent use this time of yr. Maybe the prev person had a defective pr, was wearing the wrong boots or something but I loved them.
