  • Bio:

My family is an outdoor family and there's nothing we'd rather be doing than camping or hiking...There's lots of great places in East TN to do just that. Born & raised here & wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Some of my favortie brands are Kelty, Keen, North Face, Marmot, Columbia, Life Is Good & Smart Wool. Photo was taken at Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area in the Great Smoky Mtns. Natl. Park.

The North Face Inlux Insulated Jacket - Women's

The North Face Inlux Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2009

I just received this jacket today and I am so thrilled. I saw this same North Face jacket in a different color at Dick's Sporting Goods for $179.00 and I got the Moonlight Ivory/Igneous Purple at backcountry.com for $89.99. I noticed the price went up this week...Glad I snagged it when I did. I ordered one size up so I could layer underneath with fleece and it's a perfect fit with just enough room. And the color is really nice too. It's a very dark plum. You guys at backcountry.com are awesome! :-)

KEEN Targhee Hiking Shoe - Youth

October 21, 2009

Both my son & daughter have this shoe and it seems to be quite waterproof from my experience. The only thing better would be a GoreTex treated boot. I bought rain gators for them and they wore their Keens with the gators to play in the snow and when we got home, their feet were still dry. With out rain gators you may get some wetness around the ankle or at the tongue of the shoe where there is fabric. As far as the size, you need to order a size up...they run small. For example, my daughter wears a size 1-1.5 but wears a size 2 in Keens. My kids are hooked on Keens & say they are the most comfortable shoe ever. They are such a well made shoe that they always outgrow them before they ever wear them out. I usually end up passing them onto another child we know or selling them on craigslist because they are always in such good condition when they outgrow them.

Very comfortable, But...

KEEN Voyageur Hiking Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 12, 2009

Okay, let me first say I LOVE Keen sandals. That's the only Keens I've ever owned until this purchase. The shoe is very good looking & comfortable just like the sandals, but with only one drawback. These shoes have tie laces, not the bungie cord like the sandals. The laces are a little too short in my opinion, not leaving quite enough lace to double tie & you don't get that quick on & off that I love. I also have a narrow heel and my heel slides just a little in this shoe. I've remedied that by wearing a little thicker sock. If these shoes had the bungie cord lace, they would be perfect and earn 5 stars. These run small just like the Keen sandals. I normally wear a 9-9.5 in other shoes and a Keen size 10 fits perfect. Overall, if you don't mind the laces, it's still a great shoe.
