Sure. But if you are new to sport climbing you might consider a thicker rope, like a 10.2 or 10.3 rope for ease of use. A thinner ropes can get away from you a little easier while belaying.

They are a good price, but heavy. However, if you were deciding between these and the oval biners, I'd recommend these b/c the oval biners are a lot more bulky, especially if you are using these for trad gear.
