Lightweight, Bright, Awesome

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 August 14, 2007

This headlamp is fantastic! It offers 4 different light settings: High, medium, economy (to save battery life in those critical situations where battery life is key) and flash. It is small and lightweight, but it is really bright. I have used it from backpacking, to mountaineering, to even light caving! The battery life is great too, even on the high setting!

Only good as a liner. Period.

Patagonia Lightweight Glove Liners

Patagonia Lightweight Glove Liners

Rating for this product: 2 August 10, 2007

As much as I would like to give this glove the lowest rating, it does do its job when it is just being used as a liner. That said, this glove is oversized (get a size smaller) and falls apart if you even sneeze too hard. I ripped holes in every single finger on both hands and in the palms after only 4 days of use. I had used them under a mitten while on a glacier, but when I took the mittens off to tie my boots or rig my rope, the gloves were toast. Snags on velcro and pulls apart too.

Perfect for General Mountaineering.

Grivel G12 Crampon

Grivel G12 Crampon

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

This crampon is great! Glaicers, snowslopes, ice...this takes it all. It is easy to adjust with its macro and mirco adjustments and once it's on the boot, it stays on. The antibot plates keep the snow off the bottoms so you always have points making contact with snow/ice. You can even ice climb in them, even with the horizontal front points. They look pretty sweet too.

Kavu Synthetic Strapvisor

Kavu Synthetic Strapvisor

I have had one of these bad boys for probably 4 years now. I wear it hiking, climbing, kayaking, even mountaineering under my helmet. They look good, are easy to adjust, and are comfortable. I throw mine in the wash every once in a while and it looks brand spanking new. Great sun protection!

Gaiter Fan

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

Fantastic product! Very durable, easy to adjust, and water/snow resistant. It actually kept my feet completely dry even when standing in water shin-high in my mountaineering boots. Only complaint is they fit very tight over plastic boots. It does work, but the OR Expedition Gaiters are probably a better fit. Still, awesome product. Great fit over hiking/backpacking boots!

Patagonia Capilene 2 Bottom - Men's

Patagonia Capilene 2 Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

Wore these great pants on a glacier for 5 nights under either a softshell or hardshell only. Stayed nice and warm and dry. They have a great fit and are very comfortable. Not itchy or abrasive like some other base layers. Oh, and they didn't even smell bad at the end of the trip!

Chacos = Foot Lovin'

Chaco ZX/2 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Chaco ZX/2 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

So these are definitely the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn. The molded footbed naturally supports the foot and the straps are anatomically placed to keep from rubbing the small bones in the top of the foot. Nothing but sweetness for your feet.

Mexcillent Jacket

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

This jacket is the best jacket I have. It is warm enough for snowy days and light enough for cool spring days. Wind doesn't bother me and a light sprinkle doesn't stop me. It is strecthy and breathable making it perfect for aerobic activities in cold weather. Only thing is, when I wear this while eating mexican food, it smells like mexican food for about a week. I'm not sure if that is a complaint or a praise!
