Gear & bag before packing

Deuter Futura Pro 42 Backpack - 2550cu in

January 5, 2009

Most of my gear laid out for a 3 day trip, left simple items out of the pic such as rope, stakes, water bottles, and personal items.

Bag packed

Bag packed

Deuter Futura Pro 42 Backpack - 2550cu in

January 5, 2009

Bag packed with all gear & clothes shown in prior photo as well as 3 days of food....AND I still had room in the pack! Weighed out at about 28.5 lbs. So if you can figure out how to properly load up this pack you could stretch a 4 - 6 day trip out of this pack!

Deuter Futura Pro 42 Backpack - 2550cu in

April 15, 2009

Yes this is a good sized pack for a weekend trip. Look at the pics I posted of the pack, it shows all the gear I packed in and also got in 3 days of food and some other small items that were not pictured. Maybe Jeff Gerhard packed a synthetic 0 degree bag in no compression sack and a 8 man tent. I cannot comprehend how he couldnt fit any other gear in his pack.

Good pants but could use some improvements

NRS Endurance Pants

NRS Endurance Pants

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2009

These pants have a nice fit to them and they are very easy to put on and take off, even with shoes on. The pants do keep you dry as you are in your boat/raft/kayak but there is no way around it...you will get wet if you take a swim in the water. The pants do have a thicker somewhat padded area for the behind which seemed to help keep me in my seat instead of sliding around as I hit some rough water. I did notice that the pants do not breathe all that well though. No zippers to worry about on these pants, the pull tabs for the waist are nice and very easily adjusted on the go. One thing that should be added for next years model is either 1 or 2 small pockets to stash a few small items.

Great water socks

NRS Hydroskin Sock

NRS Hydroskin Sock

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2009

What else can I say? They are water socks, and they do the job well. I wore them for a river run in mid march on Arizona's verde river which is fed from snowmelt. The water was very cold and my feet were in and out of the water all day and not once did they get cold. I did however have a thick pair of hiking socks underneath the water socks.

Great jacket

NRS Endurance Jacket - Men's

NRS Endurance Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 30, 2009

The neck and wrist cuffs are easily adjusted. The jacket does its job well, kept me dry as I was running class III water. If you get dumped into the water you will get wet though, no way around it. The jacket dries rather quickly and it does fit a little large which leaves enough room for either 1 or a couple of baselayers.

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

January 6, 2009

they are trying to say the same thing I think. Both say that the jacket is made of windstopper material. Marmots website goes on to say that the jacket is also water resistant or water repellent. Hope that answers your question.

solid tent

Big Agnes Sunnyside 2-Person 3-Season with Footprint

Big Agnes Sunnyside 2-Person 3-Season with Footprint

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2009

First time using this tent I wound up in a nice rain storm that rolled in and then turned into snow and wound up dumping 7" of snow on us. Tent stayed nice and dry throughout the rainstorm, and I had to go out into the snow storm to sweep snow off the top of the tent/fly every now and then. Never a sign of any water anywhere inside the tent or on the underside of the fly. Scored it for a killer price on SAC for tent, footprint, fly with guylines, stakes, poles, and a gearloft for the ceiling.

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 700ml Pot /Spork

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2009

Great lightweight pot and spork. Only reason it did not get 5 stars is because the lid does not seal tight, it easily comes off. 2 thumbs up to sac

nice jacket but not worth the $$$

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Sharp Point Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 2, 2009

Although this is a nice jacket due to its windproof and water repellent qualities, it is quite light and requires serious layering if you are normally a cold individual. Fleece lining is nice and soft and I like the inside pocket, and zippers all around feel great. I definitely would not have paid retail price for the jacket, and I still feel the price paid on sac was quite steep for this jacket.

Insane knife!

SOG Knives Twitch II Knife

SOG Knives Twitch II Knife

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

The assist opening on this knife is killer. Its so small and light weight I often forget where I last had the knife clipped. Sharp blade and seems to keep an edge quite well.
