Ranger Smiths

Patagonia Footwear Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boot - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 13, 2011

These boots are a great option for lots of different situations. They are dressy enough for my office with a pair of casual dress pants and a nice shirt or they can be casual enough for jeans and a sweatshirt. They have proven to be waterproof and very warm, almost too warm. The traction is amazing. The sizing is true and these are very, very comfortable. My only complaint is that in some light, the brown color can take a purple hue. I'm hoping that they will fade and that will go away over time. But it is not stopping me from wearing them. I highly recommend if you're looking for a 'dressy' yet very functional boot.

Reef Leather Fanning Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2011

These things are great! They are the most comfortable sandal I have every worn. They don't take much time to break it and the leather has stayed nice for over a year and a half. These are a little pricy, but worth it in my book! I also have the regular (non leather) Fanning and I think the leather ones are more comfortable than the regular ones. Oh ya, and there's a bottle opener on the bottom!

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Softshell Jacket - Men's

March 23, 2011

I don't have a recommendation about L of XL, but I can tell you that I am 6' 140 and the Medium fits me pretty well. It might be a little on the short side, but not too short. I will say that it is a little tight through the armpit area with a thick layer underneath (like a sweatshirt). It depends on whether you want it to be an 'athletic' fit or a loose fit. Depends on personal preference. If it doesn't fit, send it back to BC. They will exchange it, no questions asked. Hope that helps.

KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Men's

KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 14, 2011

I have owned these for about a year and have no complaints about them. I have found them to be sufficiently supportive on mild hikes and day trips. They are great to wear when water is expected, river crossings or rafting and canoeing. I also wear them while taking casual bike rides because my feet can breath. The soles have a decent amount of traction, wet or dry.
These have continued to get more and more popular for a reason!

SmartWool PhD Ski sock

SmartWool PhD Ski Medium Sock

SmartWool PhD Ski Medium Sock

Rating for this product: 5 February 27, 2011

I have several pairs of these and they are all I ski in. It doesn't matter whether its -30 or +40, these socks keep my feet comfortable. They fit pretty true to size. You definitely don't want to go too small. Constricted feet=cold feet. The extra layers of wool in the important areas of the sock really work to minimize ware on your shins and feet. Great sock.

Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ

Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ Sunglasses

Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 5 February 26, 2011

These are great. They are my favorite pair of sunglasses. The optics are Oakley's typical great quality. These fit my face really well and stay on top of my head while in doors or not wearing them. I sometimes forget that they are up there. I custom designed them on Oakley's website with the Ice Iridium lenses. These are not polarized but with the Iridium coating, they reduce glare pretty well and are great in bright light conditions. The lenses are pretty easy to swap out and change. These are awesome shades for athletic pursuits!

Oakley Gas Can Polarized

Oakley Gas Can Polarized Sunglasses

Oakley Gas Can Polarized Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 4 February 26, 2011

I bought these mainly for casual wear and because they are a relatively inexpensive polarized option. I really like them. The optics are the typical Oakley high quality. Polarization really works to reduce the glare off of water and snow. My only have two complaints about these. One is that I can't wear these with a hat on. I have to tilt them to get them to fit over a hat and this causes them to not fit right. Second is they put a little pressure on my temples when I wear them for more than 4 or 5 hours. They are just a tiny bit too tight in the temple area for a long periods of wear. But other than than those two minor complaints, I think these are great. Very happy with yet another Oakley product.

Volkl Kendo Ski

February 19, 2011

I agree that the Kendos might be a good option. I loved them in variable conditions. I am 6' 140lb and the 170s were great. Because you are a little bigger guy and from a race background, maybe the 177s? It is a mostly a matter of preference. I would also suggest taking them out for a demo. Good luck!

This is a great water bottle. There isn't anything that I don't like about this water bottle. I take it everywhere. The bite valve doesn't spill and can be opened with one hand easily. This allows me to take a drink anywhere without fearing spillage. A goat sticker graces this bottle nicely.

Rating for this product: 5 February 10, 2011

I was a little nervous about washing my expensive collection of gear, but I gave this a try anyway. Everything came out great! Got some small stains out of my hardshell jacket and softshell pants. I washed two hardshell jackets, one fleece, one synthetic down liner, and one softshell ski pant in the same load with the recommend about of Tech Wash. I put the load through an additional rinse cycle. Everything came out great! Very happy with this product.

These boots are great! I have owned them for several years. I wear them most of the winter and for summer hiking trips. They have held up great and are still very comfortable. 100% waterproof, but don't roast your feet on summer trips. These have great traction, whether its hiking or walking on frozen sidewalks. I love these boots. No plans to replace them anytime soon.

This is a really nice hoodie. I am 6' 140lbs slim build and the Large fits me great. The material is really thin, so it's great for working out or a mild hike. It has held up really well after several washings. If your looking for a thin hoodie, look no further than the Surgent!

I got this for a steal from the, now fallen, Tramdock. One of my favorite t-shirts. Has held up well through several washings. I am 6' 140lbs slim build and the Medium fits me. If you like your t-shirts to fit a little loosely, maybe order up. Notice the guru photos of the back of the shirt. It has the NF box logo on the back. This is not mentioned in the description. Show your North Face pride!

Tour Softshell Pant

Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2011

The Stoic Tour pant is a great pant for anything that I have put it through. I have found it to be very waterproof; kept me dry during a dumping day at Keystone. I have not found it to be fully windproof, but with a thin fleece pant underneath, that combo has kept me warm to -10 windchill. For warmer days, just a thin base layer is warm enough. There is a little bit of a fleece interior in the pant. Some other reviews have harped on the sizing and fit; I wear a 30x32 in jeans, a skinny 6' 140lb and I ordered the small. These fit me well. Not tight anywhere and I have enough room in the waist and thighs to fit over a thin fleece pant. I think these pants were well designed and well made. The belt loops and right thigh pocket are nice touches. The Metal color is a little more gray than the picture but a nice color. The fit around ski boots is tight and effective enough to eliminate the need for a gator. I will say they are better than my North Face pants that they replaced, and I am a huge North Face fan. I highly recommend them for any inbounds ripping.
Update: I just wore these for a short hike in a State Park with a foot of snow on the ground and they were great. Breathability is great and kept my legs from over heating. I highly recommend these for most winter activities!

This a solid belt that I wear with jeans and my ski pants. Haven't had any problems with it. I ordered the Medium for my skinny 30 waist. I have several loops on either side. I'm happy with it considering its not too expensive for a belt that will hold up to a lot of abuse. Rock on BC!

Volkl Kendo Ski

January 27, 2011

I am 6', 140lbs, intermediate-advanced and I loved the 170s. I didn't ski them in true bumps, but I can tell you that they worked really well in 'end of the day' crud on the groomers. I was able to push them around pretty easily to make quick turns, but they also ripped down the groomers.

Volkl Kendo = Awesome ski!

Volkl Kendo Ski

Volkl Kendo Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2011

After skiing on these skis for three days in Colorado, I came to the following conclusion...These skis rip everywhere! They were great on soft snow groomers and windblown groomers at Keystone, skied off groomers at Copper, skied off powder in the trees at Breck, etc. I did not have a chance to ski them in true powder. They inspire confidence that I have not gotten from other skis. The edge hold on hard snow is great. If I kept my knees over my toes, they ripped everything I came across. Long carving turns or short skidding turns are no problem. I am an intermediate-advanced skier that only skis maybe 10 times a year, but these were not too much ski for me. I’m 21 years old, 6’, 140lbs and the 170s were awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a groomer ski that can also handle soft snow without thinking twice.
(The specs here say they are a twin tip, but they are not a true twin tip.)

Oakley O Frame

Oakley O-Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 January 8, 2011

This is a pretty solid goggle for being inexpensive. I have the black with the Persimmon lens. They work well for days when the snow is really coming down or at night. That lens will defiantly be too light for sunny days. But for really low light or night, they work great. I haven't had any problems with fogging. They are helmet compatible. They also have silicone lines on the inside of the strap to help keep them in place on your helmet. Typical Oakley high quality.

Stoic Welder Short Glove

Stoic Welder Short Glove

Stoic Welder Short Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2011

These are a great glove to wear on the hill and even in the backcountry. For me, they keep my hands warm down to about 15 degrees. Anything above 30ish, they are too warm and I sweat in them. However, these do breath pretty well so sweating isn't a huge deal. They are very functional and seem to be great quality. As other reviews have stated, they do fit a little strange. The thumb is a little too short and tight. I was at the top end of the Medium sizing, so I ordered the large and the other four fingers fit great, but the thumb is a little short. No a huge issue to me though. These also have a 'cool' factor that I like. Overall, these will be a great ski glove for me.

Nikwax Softshell Proof Wash In

December 26, 2010

I have the Stoic Tour Softshell pant and would like to treat them. They have a soft fabric lining (not exactly fleece, but some soft material for light insulation)and I have read that the interior fabric shouldn't be treated with this Softshell Proof. Is this true? Should they be washed with the Tech Wash and then treated with the spray on Softshell Proof?

Smith Phenom Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2010

Awesome! I have a pair of the Matte White/Ignitor Mirror and they are great! I just skied for a week in Tahoe in mostly blue bird days. The Ignitor Mirror lens was great in bright sunlight conditions but was pretty good on the one windy dull light day that we had. These only fogged up a couple times on the chair when breathing into the wind, but they unfogged in seconds. I did not use the adjustable vents, I just left them half open and that turned out to be great. These goggles also look great! I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great pair of goggles that don't want to break the bank!

Marmot Exum Work Glove

Marmot Exum Work Glove

Rating for this product: 3 January 18, 2010

These gloves are a great option for spring or warm weather skiing. They are warm and very functional. The package suggests 20-30 degrees and I think that is pretty accurate. My only complaint is that they take a while to dry if you sweat in them. It is helpful to dry them over night with a boot drier before wearing them again the next morning.

The North Face Recon Backpack - 2015cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 5, 2009

I bought this backpack for carrying my books around campus. I like the overall look of the pack and the functionality. The pockets are very well placed, which puts everything you need easily accessible. I also like the front mesh pocket, which provides many different uses. It can expand to hold large items, but is not in the way when it isn't needed. The ability to put a hydration bladder in it was also a strong reason for me buying this pack. The pack can hold several big college text books, binders, and calculators with out a problem. But when you aren't carrying much, the pack doesn't feel huge. It can carry a lot of stuff without being bulky and in the way.
