The North Face Fission Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Neo

June 3, 2009

I just received this bag today. After I had ordered it, I noticed conflicting specs on different websites. Some of them said the stuffed size was 8x17, others said 7.5x13. I asked backcountry which was correct, and I was told it was impossible for a 20 degree synthetic bag to stuff down to 7.5x13. I was inclined to agree with them, not exactly being a gear novice. Well, the bag just came, and inside was the stuff sack: 7.5x13 right on the tag. I thought there was no way the bag was going in that thing. I was wrong. Crazy. I couldn't believe it either, but it fit. It was tight, but I got it in. I didn't post this to prove Backcountry employees wrong. Nope, I wouldn't do that to my friends. Just posted it to show everyone that it WILL stuff down to 7.5x13. Cheers.

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 17, 2009

Just got my Stoic yesterday. Haven't got to use it yet, but I'll comment on the fit. I am 5'-8" 160 lbs. with an athletic build. Smaller waist (31"), wider shoulders, but not huge. I usually wear a small in most things. A North Face size small fits me perfectly, not too tight, not too loose. I ordered 2 jackets, 1 small and 1 medium. I pulled the 1st jacket out of the box and said, "Hmmm, this must be the small." I looked at the tag and saw it was the medium. I tried it on. Ooooooh, it was wicked sweet! The fit was as close to perfect as you could be. I can fit a base layer and a 100-weight fleece underneath without restricting my movements or looking like a roasted 'mallow. With just a t-shirt on, it looked great too, and wasn't excessively baggy. I hate baggy. Everything gets in the way. The arm length was awesome, not too long or short. As for other peeps mentioning the small neck, I had no problems there either. The fabric is much sturdier than I had anticipated. I would feel comfortable with moderate bushwhacking in this without worry. Got the "Tahoe" color, and it rocks. Hope this helps someone out there. If you are unsure about a size, order both and try them on, then send the one back that doesn't fit. It costs a whole 7 bucks and 1 quick trip to UPS to send it back. I think that's worth it to get the right fit. Cheers.

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

July 16, 2009

Two more questions: I noticed the women's version has a pocket on the sleeve...does the men's have one too, and just isn't pictured? I thought that was a sweet feature--on the women's version anyway.
Also, what does color "Cayenne" really look like? In one of the user photos it looks much more red than the orange-ish picture from BC. Thanks.

Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

July 9, 2009

I just received 2 of these shirts, and it's too early to write a review. However, I noticed the seams on the side of the shirt that run from the underside/armpit of the sleeve down to the bottom hem are not the same on each side. One runs down the side much more than the other side, which seems to curve more toward the front of the shirt. In other words, they aren't symmetrical. It doesn't affect the performance of the shirt, it's just asthetics. Has anyone else noticed this?

CamelBak Ergo Hydrolock

April 27, 2009

I got my reservoir today and it came with a Big Bite valve. I assumed it came with a smaller standard valve and that if you wanted to upgrade, you needed to purchase the Big Bite valve separately. I was wrong.

Will this only work for the Big Bite valve and not for the small one that come with the reservoir? Also, does the Big Bite valve attach directly to the hydrolock?

The North Face Sentinel Windstopper Soft Shell Jacket - Men's

April 23, 2009

Interesting...the thermal verion of this jacket (http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF3629/The-North-Face-Sentinel-Thermal-Softshell-Jacket-Mens.html?CMP_ID=SH_FRO001&CMP_SKU=TNF3629&mv_pc=r126) looks darker in the same color(It might be my monitor). Also, one other question someone might know the answer to: Is this an athletic fitting jacket? Is it fairly slim, or is it loose?

Almost Great

Columbia Ice Ax Soft Shell Jacket - Men's

Columbia Ice Ax Soft Shell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 21, 2008

This jacket is very comfortable. I tried it on along with a North face Apex Bionic, and it wasn't even close. The Columbia was much more comfy. It seems to be completely waterproof although i really haven't tested it to hard, and it sheds water like a duck. The fit is great, slim, but not constricting. The only issue I have is the breathability. It lacks a bit, and there are no pit zips. This is the only thing keeping this jacket from being great.

The North Face Apex Zip Shirt Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Zip Shirt Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 19, 2007

Shirt is top notch. Better name for the color would have been "pumpkin". That's how bright orange this shirt is in "Ignition Orange". The picture doesn't accurately dipict the real color.
