Taste Great, Less filling

Katadyn Hiker Water Microfilter

Katadyn Hiker Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2003

We used our Katadyn Hiker Water filter for the first time on an overnighter a few weeks ago. Due to recent rains, the water was somewhat murky, and we had our doubts how the water would taste. The pump is easy to use; we had four Nalgene bottles filled in about five minutes. I took the advice of others and wrapped a coffee filter around the intake to extend the filter life. The lake water really tasted great! Almost as good as bottled water from a store. Setup/takedown was very easy. I'm not sure how anyone could confuse the inlet/outlet; they are clearly marked.

Neat idea, takes up lots of room

MSR Alpine Kitchen Cupboard

MSR Alpine Kitchen Cupboard

Rating for this product: 3 May 12, 2003

The folding utensils are wonderful! The cupboard itself takes up lots of room in your pack. It is slightly larger than the average cookset. The small containers are nice, but with "pop" on/off lids, I would be careful what you put in them. We prefer the screw-on lids of Nalgene bottles for things like oil, spices, etc. However, we like the cupboard for keeping everything in one place. The cupboard needs a locking lid. The lid comes off quite easily. We solved this problem by drilling two holes on both sides of the lid and running a small bungee cord thru the lid. It holds everything together securely.

Therm-a-Rest Couples Kit

Therm-a-Rest Couples Kit

My wife and I use "mate-able" sleeping bags, and this item really solved the problem of our mats slipping out from between us. It keeps us snuggly all night. ;)

Best socks ever! Your feet will thank you!

Bridgedale Light Hiker Socks

Bridgedale Light Hiker Socks

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2003

If you want to keep your feet dry and blister free, then buy these socks! I have worn Thorlos for years, and there is no comparison! The seams, padding, and overall build on the Bridgedales is far superior to any sock we have worn. I wear a 9 mens and my wife an 8 womens, and we can use the same socks, due to Bridgedale's unisex sizing. The same pair fits both of us just fine. You will find yourself wanting to wear these socks all the time, even off the trail. They wash and dry just fine, just turn them inside out before washing.
