Many innovations make for a great tent.

MSR Mutha Hubba Tent 3-Person 3-Season

MSR Mutha Hubba Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 April 24, 2007

We retired a Jansport 3-man dome purchased in 1978 with this tent. The differences are incredible without taking one thing away from the excellent Jansport. Setup of the MuthaHubba is intuitive and quick. The color-coded clips and clear instructions made the first setup last less than 10 minutes. I set it up myself to clean it in less time. Having camped in severe thunderstorms in Texas, I find the dual canopies to be very useful and engineered well to deflect wind. The opposing angle silver poles give excellent stability and make the tent seem exceptionally roomy. It is a "backpackers" three man tent, not a car campers three man. But with the vestibules actively in use, my wife, my son, and I had plenty of room. As close as perfect as this tent comes, I do have two criticisms that I think would be easy to make to improve the tent even more. The corner "wallet" storage areas should be duplicated at both ends of the inside storage pockets. And the vestibules should both have double zippers. I rigged a 2 foot long line to the vestibule zippers to make them reachable without leaning on the ground. The small supported vents engineered into the fly and accessible from inside more than make up for these small complaints.

Useful addition

MSR Mutha Hubba Footprint

MSR Mutha Hubba Footprint

Rating for this product: 5 April 24, 2007

This ground cloth was used on dry, stony ground in Ventura, California and didn't show a single mark or stress point. It is designed to clip easily into the tent poles and is much easier to carry than the 4 mil plastic sheeting that I am used to using. It fits well into the stuff sack that came with the tent. Highly recommend the footprint.
