Osprey Stratos 32 for day hikes and fishing

Osprey Packs Stratos 32 Backpack - 1800-2200 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 10, 2007

I received the Stratos 32 about 6 weeks ago and have since used it for several day hikes and to carry fly fishing and other gear into remote locations. So far I am liking the pack and feel I made the right choice (with your help and great service ). It is light, has lots of versatility with the large main compartment and external small and not-so-small side pockets. And it's easy to lash gear and/or clothing to the outside or stuff items in the external pockets. The fit and weight of the pack are perhaps the most impressive features. It's easy to adjust both when first putting the pack on and while moving down the trail when little adjustments can shift things a bit and relieve some body tensions. The frame gives the pack good shape and helps distribute load but prevents one from stuffing it into small places for storage or transport. We'll see how the material and zippers hold up with time. It's seems to be a quality pack so don't think that will be an issue. I'm looking forward to strapping my skis and snowshoes to it this winter. Seems the large capacity and good access will be just right for winter day treks when easy removing and adding clothing is key for comfort and safety. The narrow profile should be great when using poles. I would highly recommend this pack for winter trekking and during other seasons when quite a bit of gear is carried. If you don't need that much gear the compression straps effectively reduce the size.

Kelty Gunnison 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Kelty Gunnison 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 August 3, 2007

I've had very good experience with Kelty tents so bought the Gunnison 4 to replace my last Kelty after 12 years of steady use. Mostly use it for car camping. Tent setup is a snap, good zippers, plenty of head space, if fly is anchored properly there will be good ventilation and protection from rain and wind. I like that you can open a door and stand up through door with feet still in tent for getting dressed and such. Vestibules at both doors gives ample storage for packs, boots, etc. I bought another for my kids and friends use.

review from longtime Kelty tent user

Kelty Gunnison 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Kelty Gunnison 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 April 27, 2007

We used the Kelty V4 on many car-camping trips for about 10 years. Appreciated the simplicity of design and ease of setup. The zipper on one of the V4 doors finally gave out though we still use it, but we wanted a new tent. The Gunnison 4 seems to be the recent version of the V4 with some significant revisions though basically the same tent. Hooks for connecting tent to poles are significant improvement over previous sleeve design. There's now more netting on the tent and this coupled with vents high on the fly make for improved ventilation. This really makes sense to me. One thing I don't like on the new version is that there are loops for anchoring on only one of the rainfly flaps which means you can't independently tie one flap back but are limited to either both or only the one without loop. This can make a difference for keeping sun out while ventilating. Even though it's a two-pole tent, the anchor points on the fly make it very stable in winds. For $200 this is an excellent value. Would recommend to anyone.
