Bought this when it was on sale, but left it on a train. Sucks, cause this jacket is great! I used it on the Inca Trail and it was perfect for those cool windy mountain passes. Not very thick, so won't keep you warm in under 40 degree weather without more layers, but perfect for cool windy weather. I'm sucking it up and buying another...

I wear a 40 reg as well and for NF gear, Medium fits really well. With that being said, if you like things a little bit loose you may want to consider L. But Medium is prob the right size...
