    Alaska, Wyoming
  • Bio:

My boss drives me... to get up in the morning. Except on weekends, then I can be found hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, skate skiing, snowboarding, or jogging... none of these things I do very well, but I enjoy them as long as people are willing to slow down for me. I originally hale from Michigan, so topography was new to me when I moved to Wyoming in 2005, and then topography with more steroids when I moved to Alaska in 2008. When I'm vacationing, I prefer to be someplace warm where I can water ski, windsurf, kite sail, swim, surf, or play a hilarious game of whiffle ball or volleyball on the beach... or fall asleep in the sun.

Carve Designs Outland Sweat Pant - Women's

Carve Designs Outland Sweat Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2011

I got these yesterday. I'm 5'9" and 150lb and the mediums fit great. They make my butt look fabulous (I mean... they ARE sweat pants... so... I'll be showing off my cute tuckus only in the house...). They are warm and made from what seems like a sturdy, thick fabric. I put them on apre skate ski and then stood by the fire and warmed right up. I like that they come in at the ankle, but I'm tall, so they don't look as slouchy as the photos. I'd say great use of $60 for this Alaska girl!

Hike/PackRaft in a downpour- Eureka Creek, AK

Stoic Vaporshell 3L Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2011

I spent Labor Day weekend hiking off the Denali Highway- 20 miles of hiking and packrafting an additional 20 miles. This was a trip that really gave me a deep appreciation of my gear because it poured rain 2 out of the 3 days we were out. The 20 mile hike was nearly ALL bushwhacking through shoulder high willow and alder, so when it wasn't raining, it certainly was nowhere near dry around me. This jacket held up to everything very well. While rafting it stayed in my pack outside of a dry bag (since it went in wet) and got SOAKED. It also served as a buffer between my sleeping bag and the rain fly we were sleeping under. After being packed in my pack, stuffed next to my bed, poked by innumerable sticks, and staying wet for 3 days straight because it didn't get a chance to dry out, I am happy and relieved to report back to you all that this thing is still 100% waterproof, breathable, and dries pretty quickly. I was surprised because it's sort of a thicker fabric. I am 5'9" 145lb and the M fits great with nice long arms and a big ol' hood!!! Attached is a picture of us hiking through mercifully low brush. I am in the middle with the Stoic jacket on and Eureka glacier in the back ground.

The test of the Alaskan Backcountry

The North Face Venture Side Zip Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 6, 2011

I want to write to North Face and thank them for these pants. I am 145lb and 5'9 with a 33" inseam and the mediums fit me nicely with a pair of hiking pants underneath. I took them on a 3 day long 20 mile hike and 20 mile packraft trip off of the Denali Highway (re: very remote) and it poured for 2/3 days and there was plenty of bush wacking through soaking brush. They got soaked in my pack on my pack raft (while I was in a dry suit), but still managed to keep me very dry. I love the pockets. The side zippers were really nice at the end and beginning of each day to be able to slip my already shoed feet into them. Bottom Line: They dry relatively quickly, didn't get punctured in burly bush-wacking scenarios, fit really well, and the pants never stopped protecting me from the rain. Attached is a photo of some of the more tame terrain (on our one sunny day), because hey, it's a great picture of a beautiful trip!

Isis Eden Boatneck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Isis Eden Boatneck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2010

I bought this on a whim, its a great shirt. Kind of stretches out, maybe? But it fits me really well and has nice long arms. I'm 5'9" 145lbs with 40" hips and 36" bust. The shirt fits over both of these features very well (medium). I also love the blue color. I wear this with a down vest and jacket for dog walks and casual dinner parties.

Ibex Izzi Pant - Women's

Ibex Izzi Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2010

I love these pants. I want a matching Izzie shirt, and maybe a coat for my dog... I put them on every day when I get back from work, when I walk the dog, when I wake up on the weekends, when I come back from skiing. I felt guilty at first for buying such expensive pants, but I just LOVE them. They wash well, too! I'm 5'9", 145lbs and I have a pair of medium pants that fit great... they aren't baggy (so don't expect that!).

Insulated wrap skirt

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Reversible Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 December 29, 2010

This is a great skirt for what it is. It packs down so its tiny, and I love the olive/blue color I got. It rides pretty high on my waist (I'd have to get an XL for it to sit on my 40" hips), and if there's a breeze say goodbye to protection (wrap skirt... predictable). I plan to wear it on all of my moose riding adventures, and taking it camping and backcountry split-boarding when I can. Also, it's quite static-y.

i'm too long for this dress

Leilani Samantha Dress - Women's

Leilani Samantha Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 28, 2010

beautiful color, fits nicely in the torso (true to size). But, I'm 5'9" and it comes to low calf on me. I still like it, though, I just wish it was down to the floor. Although, the skirt isn't that full, so id probably have a hard time walking if it came down any further. So, I think this dress would be gorgeous on someone 5'6", but if you're taller and you just want a pretty dress to lounge about in the back yard... go for it.

beautiful, well made dress

NAU Glimpse Dress - Women's

NAU Glimpse Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2010

Usually I prefer to buy dresses that have a defined waist because I'm rather hippy (5'9" and 150lb with a 40" hip). HOWEVER, this dress rules. It's well made, and the way the pieces are cut makes it really flattering. I think I might wear this dress to a pig roast wedding this summer. I do sort of wish it had a belt or a design on it or something, but that's just because I have trouble accessorizing. Super comfortable, feels nice against my skin, and looks great on me! I doubt the built-in bra is worth much to people with a larger chest than B, but the straps would hide a bra nicely. The little pieces of fabric that are used to snap around the straps would probably hold the bra strap in place. I'm pretty sure if I ever take them off I'll lose them though.

love these pants

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2010

I got a 10 L and I'm normally around an 8 (40" hips, 5'9", 150 lb), I'm glad that I went up in size, I think I could've fit into an 8, but the tie on the pants makes it roomy enough to climb a steep hill, but they won't fall off, or even show off butt-crack. They are plenty long, I can picture them fraying at the bottoms eventually, but as a girl who is constantly looking for long enough inseam, I'm happy with them. Woohoo!

Carve Designs High Point Skirt - Women's

Carve Designs High Point Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 May 20, 2010

Carve designs is usually really good at having their clothes fit true to size. However, I'd recommend that if you're hippy like me, size up. The skirt kind of clings to my thighs and makes me self conscious. I'm going to return my medium and get a large, and then I'm SURE I'll rate it 5 stars!

Carve Designs Rincon Ruched Bikini Bottom - Women's

Carve Designs Rincon Ruched Bikini Bottom - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 20, 2010

I was convinced that I would never feel awesome in a bathing suit. I'm 5'10" and 145lbs and have bigger hips than bust. Somehow, this bathing suit bottom marries comfort with slimmingness and does not feel like it's going to fly off if I happen to stand UP on a surf board and then fall down into the wave and get mashed around a bit. I followed the size chart, and it fits perfectly, and now I'm obsessed with Carve Designs things. I finally feel like walking out in the sun with this on and not hiding in a pair of shorts or a long shirt!!!

Carve Designs Rincon Ruched Tankini Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 26, 2010

I got this in black, and it's SUPER flattering. I put it on after a winter in Alaska, where winter weight just sort of happens. It fits true to size. I thought I'd never feel good in a bathing suit... but this one RULES.

I got a medium and I'm 5'9", 145lbs, and pear shaped.

I like it, but...

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Women's

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 8, 2010

So, I like this, it fits, it's long enough, the length of the arms is stellar for my albatross wingspan, and the hood fits my big ol' head. The things I don't like about it: 1. it doesn't seem to breath very well... I was walking my dog wearing this under a coat in 20-something weather and was a sweaty mess when i got home (maybe i was just over dressed?) 2. the detail stitching has been coming undone since i brought it out of the bag... it snags on EVERYTHING. I could care less about that though. It works for mild days in the city, not sure I'd take it with me into the backcountry.

Great base layer

Arc'teryx Escala Strap Tank - Women's

Arc'teryx Escala Strap Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 8, 2010

I have this tank top in the Lobelia and Emberglow. The price on SAC is always nice, but the shirt itsself fits awesome. I wore it as my next to skin layer on an avalanche class when we had to spend about 5 hours a day hiking on splitboards. I also wear it as a base layer biking in the winter to work (-10F to 30F). The shelf bra is a joke if you're above a B cup, but I find it works fine for my modest chest. It moves with me and doesn't shift, and it wicks pretty effectively. Also, it accomodates my unproportional hips. The medium fits great (me: 36-29-40).

great Dress!

The North Face Celestine Travel Dress - Women's

The North Face Celestine Travel Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 8, 2010

WHY are they getting rid of El Rio blue?! I got this dress in a medium (I'm 150lbs at 5'9") and it's gorgeous. It drapes nicely, the fabric is ultra-soft, and the cut just looks classy. I think it fell just at my knee or a little below. The ties are a little confusing, it would be fun if they were in a contrasting color and a bit thicker. All in all this was well worth the price!

pretty dress!

Mission Playground Grace Dress - Women's

Mission Playground Grace Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 8, 2010

I enjoy this dress. I have wider hips than chest, and I like how it drapes. I got a size Medium (I am a: 36-29-40) and it fits great. I got the purple one, because I wanted to pair it with a pair of cowboy boots. I like that the wrap part is stitched together so I feel more confident that "the girls" are tucked safely away. The only thing that I can complain about... is that there's a little discoloration in the print and it looks like I have a tiny speck of toothpaste on my dress... but I think that it's probably going to go away with a washing when the dress starts to relax! I love buying dresses in the middle of winter in Alaska!!!

Mission Playground Departure Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

I love love LOVE this shirt. I got a medium, typically wear mediums, and it fits great. The neck is fun, but not outrageous, and the bird detail on the back is super fun! I love how long the sleeves are and the material is soft. I wear this shirt to work, it drapes really nicely. I hope Mission Playground will make ALL of my clothes.

Review Title

The North Face Canmore Lake Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Canmore Lake Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 1 January 8, 2010

The only people I can imagine these would fit are those who have no muscle above their knees... the zipper was so tight at the convertible part, I couldn't get them all the way on AND I ordered them a size larger than pants I normally wear. I am not overweight, at 5'10" and 150lbs, and never *thought* I had ham-hocks for upper legs... Anyway, unless you have anomalously thin upper legs, I'd say avoid the heartache involved in how soft and awesome these pants *could* be.

I love these pants, but had to return them because they just magically ripped along the shing after wearing them 3 times, not washing them, and running basic errands (that did not include walking through shin-high knives or brambles) I'm exchanging them, though :c)

MontBell Alpine Light Down Parka - Women's

MontBell Alpine Light Down Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 14, 2009

So, for the price, this jacket rules. Definitely go up a size, I got a Large and typically wear a Medium (5'9" and 145lbs). The one thing that I'm kind of disappointed in, is that if I have a pair of heavy gloves in the pockets the zipper comes apart from bottom up... maybe I got a faulty jacket though. It's warm and I am excited to wear it in the backcountry split-board hiking!

Horny Toad Enola Skirt - Women's

Horny Toad Enola Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

I wouldn't say it runs big, I got an 8 and it fits like my pants... unless you like to wear your skirts up at your natural waist (which I don't, I like mine to sit at my hips). I don't understand why they call the color "plum" it didn't look purple at all to me... it's a very cute skirt, fits nicely and I would recommend it.
