CW-X Insulator Stabilyx 3/4 Tights - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2012

These tights are great. They offer superior support of the knees as well as the hamstrings. They are sufficiently thick and provide great warmth. The 3/4 length is perfect for skiing as they don't bunch up in your boots.

Great do it all binding!

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2012

I have had these on multiple pairs of skis and have thoroughly enjoyed them on all of them. I use this binding inbounds and for touring. I have had the smallest issue with the cartridges spinning but once I applied a touch of thread lock on them I haven't had any issues since. I have these paired up with Scarpa T-Races which is a seriously powerful setup.

Don't listen to the folks who spray hate on these. They are worth a try and if you don't like them you don't like them. I tried the 22 Designs and wasn't super stoked on them. So to each their own.

Swiss Army Bindings

Marker Baron Ski Binding

Marker Baron Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 January 29, 2012

These bindings are great. I ski mostly in bounds on these as I have a dedicated touring rig with Dyna-Fits for the fast and light ascents. These work great for everything. Inbounds skiing, side country as well as backcountry. The only reason I give them four stars was due to some minor issues with the AFDs on these. I have the original Barons and the problem has been fixed since.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

I have this jacket and let me tell you it is awesome. I have worn it from mountaineering to skiing to impromptu on slope dental extractions. This jacket is as tough as they come and and as dry as they come. The seams really are teeny tiny and the joints articulate better than Montel Williams on the Who's the daddy episodes.

The construction on this is impeccable and after one whole season of hammering it and traveling around the world of the US it has withstood everything without so much as a thread out of place, with one exception. That is the aforementioned dental extraction. I had a ski come down slope and hit me in the face. It was a powder day so I had the collar all the way up and the ski managed to knock out some teeth and in the process it put the smallest little cut in the collar where the remaining stumps of my teeth punctured through.

I foresee this jacket lasting at least 5 years maybe more.

If you are looking for a bomber do it all jacket this is your go to!!

Hit or Miss.

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Black Diamond O1 Telemark Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 3 February 26, 2010

I will agree with many others out there that these bindings need some refinishing by BD. The cartridges spin way too freely leading to constant need for adjustment, they are heavy and can be tough to set up properly. On the upside the tour mode toggle is the best of any of the tele-touring bindings I have used. Who woulda thought that a button that moves on a toggle up and down would be better than something you can't even fit your pole tip in to slide left to right and vice-versa. Make them lighter and make the cartridges stay in adjustment and I could see this being a more acceptable BC tele binding.

A great crampon

Black Diamond Cyborg Pro Crampons

Black Diamond Cyborg Pro Crampons

Rating for this product: 4 February 26, 2010

As mentioned before this is a great technical crampon tan can even be used for some glacial travel if necessary. I have climbed with these set up monopoint as well as double fanged and placement is a charm every time. They are amply stiff for making tough sticks but not so stiff as to impede necessary boot flex! I have used them for everything from ski mountaineering to straight up ice climbing! A great technical crampon.

BD AT Sole Blocks

Black Diamond Factor AT Sole Block

Black Diamond Factor AT Sole Block

Rating for this product: 5 February 26, 2010

I finally found a pair of these in large. Seems to me BD underestimated the desire people had for these awesome upgrades to their AT boot(duh). Got a pair so that I can switch back and forth between the AT and Alpine toe plate. I found that the AT heel piece works in my alpine bindings just as well and is way more durable than the Alpine blocks. The soles seem to have great grip and interface well with my Barons, my Dynafits as well as Fritchis and Naxos.
The plastic has seemed to hold up fairly well and resists dimpling from my bindings heel pieces.

All in all a nice upgrade to a great boot although tough to track down a size large.

Light, Fast, Sticky Skins

Black Diamond GlideLite Mohair Pure STS Climbing Skin

Black Diamond GlideLite Mohair Pure STS Climbing Skin

Rating for this product: 5 February 26, 2010

I bought these last season without a pair of skis for them, that was until I got my Voile Drifters. With so much underfoot on these skis the 120mm skin fit perfectly without even touching a blade to them. For fatter skis people are using these days a lighter skin that has just as much coverage seems to work just as well for me. The tips are a very nice feature as well as there is no end to the variation of ski tips these days. The effective tail strap is a nice addition as well. No more losing the little metal fix clip as it stays firmly in place in the rubber strap.
For someone with a lot of ski under foot who wants a lighter skin or someone looking to be light and fast that is not looking to go straight up these are a great skin choice.

Black Diamond Factor Boot

Black Diamond Factor Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Black Diamond Factor Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 26, 2010

I purchased these boots this season as a replacement for my worn out Alpine boots. I was looking for a boot that would be as good inbounds as it is outtabounds. This boot fills that niche very well. I was a little worried at first about the stiffness. I tried the boot on and it felt no where near 130 Flex, but get it out in the could and it increases in stiffness significantly. They seem to have remedied the walk mode problems of yesteryear and the liners are pretty nice to boot. I had never owned a BOA linered ski boot before, but it makes total sense in an AT boot. You can run the buckle as loose as you want and don't get heel lift like many other boots when buckled loosely. These boots have a very deep heel cup, so much so that when removing them I have to take the liners out on my feet and then remove the liners. Not a problem as I take my liners out to dry after a ski day anyhow.
Over all a great do it all boot!

BD TeleKneesis

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad

Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad

Rating for this product: 4 February 25, 2010

A great piece of Tele gear. People will heckle you about knee pads until they have taken a knee shot whilst down low! These are very low profile and tend to stay put pretty well even in an aggressive ski position. They articulate very well as they are a three piece design. The low bulk leads to a very nice fit under your pants. This is another exceptional product from Black Diamond

Thule T2, best around!

Thule Transport T2

Thule Transport T2

Rating for this product: 4 February 18, 2010

As for an all around easy to use hitch mounted bike rack there should be no other choice in your mind. Thule hit a home run on this one. Strong enough for my DH bike and adjustable enough to fit even my 20 incher this rack does it all. The easy to use ratcheting tire hook cinches down over the front wheel quickly and securely, snug up the rear tire strap and you are all set. As mentioned by Hating Ohio below the locking mechanism leaves a little to be desired but if you are spending $400 on a rack then you are obviously an avid cyclist and would never trust your bike to a simple rack lock. I carry a cable lock with me at all times as a deterrent to less than honest people, lets face it if someone wants your whip they are gonna get it.

Now onto the the details, available in a 2" or 1 1/4" this can fit either hitch type and provides a secure interface between rack and vehicle. Add on the 2 bike extension and this rack is capable of handling four DH bikes(trust me, Done It). You can't beat this rack for shuttle runs with your buddies in Post Canyon or setting shuttle on the McKenzie river trail.

Four stars because of the chincey(sp?) locking feature.

WAYYY Stiff and straight

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

Rating for this product: 3 January 5, 2010

I am gonna have to go with everybody else that these are super stiff and like big lines. I feel like I didnt give these a fair chance as I took them out on a crappy day. But they were just way to straight and stiff to even consider on piste tele turns. I am no expert but do pride myself in being able to make a proficient tele turn. I found myself doing the tele-whirlibird down the hill a time or two from them hooking an edge.
Perhaps I should have had a little warm up run on them to get the feel but I will stick with my assumption that the are a BIG mountain ski and thats it!
Bottom line if you are looking for straight line skis that can blast through crud and flash a line check these out!

Voile Drifter 182cm

Voile Drifter Hybrid Rocker Ski

Voile Drifter Hybrid Rocker Ski

Rating for this product: 4 January 3, 2010

So after about 8 Days on this ski, I think I am ready to give a little insight!
First of these skis are light, they weigh 6 ounces less than my ladies Pandora 162 mounted with the same bindings. Mine are 182s. That being said for a ski this size and weight they are the perfect amount of stiffness for me 6'1" 180' clothed, without accompanying ski gear. I know stiffness is subjective across the board but this ski does pretty much everything except groomers/hardpacks. It floats over the top of crud really well perhaps due to its rocker or perhaps its girth. On powder, on powder is where these things rule! Its like water skiing, the float is amazing and they turn with ease. The feeling is pretty awesome.
The rocker in the tip seems to pull these up top pretty quickly and keep them there.
They have done surprisingly well in the goaty type lines picking down through threes in chutes. Perhaps not in a situation where a fall would be terrible but in the "safe" steeps.
That is all for now until I get some real time on these doing some touring.

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 1, 2010

It feels like wearing a warm cloud!I havent stopped wearing this jacket since I bought it. It has ceased to amaze me. The jacket has an impeccable fit for the athletically built types like myself. I am 6'1" and 175 and it fits perfect for all day ski sessions at the Bird.As mentioned before the draw cords are not as stout as they could be but the length and fit of the jacket have thus far prevented snow infiltration even in a triple tumble tomahawk in blower powder. Also mentioned before, the front zipper could be a little more stout, they froze up once on me around the top by my mouth buch still unzipped with a little effort. It still gets five stars as it has impressed me more than any other jacket I have ever owned in the amount of time I have been wearing it.I gave them as Christmas presents to my family members and they havent stopped wearing them yet either, my brother described the feeling as "Being hugged by a goose" !!

Merino Wool Rocks

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 1, 2010

My New Daily Ski shirt....I wear it everytime! The fabric on this is awesome after the first wash. The wools refuses to absorb odor, I pulled it out of the dirtys bin after being in there for four days and NO STINK. The fit is great, me: 6' 11' 178ish with a long torso and long arms. It fits perfect everywhere. No bagging under the arms, the cuffs have stretched a little though. Even on the coldest of the days I wear just this under my Stoic Welder HI softshell and feel awesome. It dries amazingly fast and like I said before NO STINK.
I gave it four stars because the fabric can be sensitive as I have already shredded the cuff area by bumping it on the edges of my skis while throwing a quick edge on with a pocket sharpener. Other than that a 10 of 10!!

Icelantic Nomad

Icelantic Nomad Alpine Ski

Icelantic Nomad Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2009

This ski is quite possibly your niche market one quiver ski. I rode this ski set up Tele on or about boot center on balance point. This ski initiated turn super easily and had great bite on piste for a ski its size. At the same time this ski felt super nimble and agile enough for the trees. Where I found it excelled the best was in the Powder/powdery crud. It handle bouncing through the tracks of others easily and kept tips up in the rest of the deepness.

The Icelantic Nomad is a great ski!

Great Bibs

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2009

Ponied up for these a week or so ago and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I am a tall lanky guy and have a hard time finding athletically fit clothing. If I get a large it is long enough but I look like a hobo dressed in a barrel they are so large in the waist/chest area. These bibs fit great! I couldn't bear another day without these bibs so I jumped the gun and ordered the blue and to my surprise the color has really grown on me!
Now to the important part, the build quality of these bibs is pretty awesome. I am really digging all the welded seams all over these bibs, this feature really helps keep water infiltration to a minimum as well as bulk to a minimum. The inseam vents help in dumping heat on those long skin session.
The suspenders have a trick velcro adjustment system so no silly buckles to dig in to your chest. They have plenty of pockets all except on the bib are sealed with storm proof zippers with fobs on them!! They are light and really contour to your body when you have your knee slammed deep into a turn.

All in all for the price these should be considered a serious front runner in choice of ski bibs.

P.S. I took a hit from a fellow skier and caught his edge all the way across my boot hard enough for him to double eject and not even so much as a scuff!!! These bibs are sweet!

At last a glove that I love!!! Stoic Glove

Stoic Welder Glove

Stoic Welder Glove

Rating for this product: 5 December 16, 2009

I write this as I stand in he tram line. These stoic gloves were made for me. I have been on a 20 year hunt for the perfect glove. That hunt has concluded today. No more do I have to wander the aisles searching searching for gloves constantly being let down. I love this glove.

It is warm it is dry and it fits my crazy hands. The welded seams and well tailored leather palms lead to a glove that has no bunch points and flexes with your hand Instead of against it. The zippered cuff makes for easy positioning of your coat cuff over the mid length gauntlet. This is great when taking them on and off on the lifts. The best of all the liner doesn't budge when you remove your hand.

Bottom line: the best glove for your money with subtle style to boot!

Buy this glove. Buy Stoic.

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2009

So I just picked up a pair of these as a gift for my girlfriend. We wont go into how excited she was. First thing I noticed was the amazing overall build quality of this ski. It has awesome detail in the graphics all the way down to integration of the actual wood core into the overall scheme of the design. The sidewalls are a super durable looking blue Base material. We have yet to mount these up as we are waiting on her Marker Barons but she is ecstatic with the thought of getting to slay the mountains on these!!
